denco7 Pillar of the Community United States 2543 Posts	Posted 01/22/2013 11:03 am I am definitely not an expert, but I have seen many and have few 8 reales coins from the 18th and 19th century and that looks in way too good a shape for a " piece of eight " from 1801. It's a Class 3 Modern/Replica Fake. More of a replica type than a contemporary counterfeit of any distant period. Contemporary counterfeit being defined as co-circulating with the legitimate pieces back in the day (i.e., late 1700/early 1800's).
