Quote: About 6 weeks ago I added another Morgan to my pocket. It has changed a little since then... Starting to get a nice CircCam look and really making it's way towards the P01 grade I am shooting for. Looking good!

@MontCollector, that's a pretty impressive change in that 85-O Morgan in just 6 weeks, great CircCam look. I should give you some of my old silver for you to carry around in your pocket. Or better yet, I'll buy your old dirty jeans!

I have a couple of Kennedy halves that I've been carrying around -- posted earlier in this thread or elsewhere, just updating here. Here's a 1968-S (proof) as it was in September 2016, almost two years ago: Here it is today: And here's a 1968-D as it was in September 2017, almost one year ago: Here it is today: What's weird to me is that the "S" (proof) has been in my pocket almost every day and had more in-hand exposure -- it still looks pretty good, just a little pocket lint and oil accumulation around the devices that I just wipe away from time to time. The "D" has been less handled and usually lives hanging on a hook -- it looks much more toned but slightly less worn.

Thanks for the update! Quote: The "D" has been less handled and usually lives hanging on a hook -- it looks much more toned but slightly less worn. It probably looks more toned because it has been handled less. Frequent handling will wear away any toning trying to develop, I would think.

Here is my 1921 Morgan. Started September 2017, in the pocket almost daily. Here is how it started after it arrived from ebay: 1963 Franklin half. Started just a couple weeks ago, and in the pocket daily. Been wanting a Franklin for the pocket, particularly one of this year and in about this condition. From circulation, so not a bad find for face! 1967 Canadian dollar. Started September 2017 (within days of the Morgan IIRC). In the pocket usually several times a week. Started out BU. 2013 ASE. This one has been with me the longest, since June 2014, but is not often in the pocket much anymore, although I am thinking about bringing it back full time. Started out BU. This was my first ASE, and is special to me since I bought it in Oct. 2013 on my 30th birthday, and just 10 days before my daughter was born. Here is how she looked in April 2015, the previous most recent picture: Thanks for reading! Always look forward to seeing everyone's progress.

Love this thread. I want to get myself a pocket piece but it doesn't seem very practical to spend a fair amount on a coin for the sole purpose of wearing it down. My ideal would be a Barber Half or a Large Cent in like VF-XF to where I could notice the gradual wear on the coin. It'd probably also have to be a details coin so I wouldn't feel so bad about it.

Thanks for the update, hcmusicguy! They all seem to be moving along rather nicely, especially the '67 dollar. I realized that I should probably do an update next weekend, as it will be six months since my last one (still have not missed a day). I don't think much has changed, though. I bought a 1922 Peace dollar graded MS-60 with the intention of breaking it out and adding it to the pocket, but I have yet to commit. I'm currently weighing the pros and cons. Quote: My ideal would be a Barber Half or a Large Cent in like VF-XF to where I could notice the gradual wear on the coin. It'd probably also have to be a details coin so I wouldn't feel so bad about it. My only piece (1921-D Morgan) was very "Details" to begin with, having multiple deep scratches and being gold-plated! The plating is almost entirely removed now, but the scratches remain, and my goal is to get it worn down enough that those original scratches disappear. I think the primary concern should be the numismatic value of the coin you are considering to intentionally wear down in your pocket. My 1921-D Morgan has little numismatic value, but still retains its PM value. A large cent has little metallic value, so most of its value rests with the numismatic interest. It may not be the best choice for a pocket piece. High mintage, common silver coins are probably the best choices. Plus, the silver content creates a harder metal that does not wear down as quickly, and that's part of the deal. You could use an aluminum coin and see it wear down quickly, but it may defeat the purpose. Although, adding a large BU aluminum coin to a pocket that already contains a large silver coin could be interesting.

I got one in the other day, don't even have to wear it in, just right. Fits in well with both my Cull/P01 Type set and the Encased Coins I've been collecting... And this will soon be my pocket piece, been working to even out the coloring before carrying... http://goccf.com/t/328858

One thing I noticed after making my post was this bunch of what appears to be raised bumps around the "U" and "N" on United States, on the reverse of the Morgan. They don't appear to be gouges or dings, they look more like they're raised, as best I can tell given the lighting angle. I looked closely with a magnifying glass but that was inconclusive. Any thoughts?

Thanks. Could be. My other worry was that I've been carrying around a fake for the last year. But it has passed every single test I've thrown at it, and when I acquired it last year it still had a fair amount of luster left under all the toning, so I doubt that's the issue.

i just picked this up tonight. great pocket piece. it's been dropped a few times, shows the usual hundred-and-twenty-year-old wear and has been improperly cleaned, but it bears the coveted CC. I don't normally carry any coinage, but i'll carry this one.

Very nice! I just got an 1883-O in the mail last week. Heavily circulated like this one, but has a very nice cameo going on. Was going to make it a pocket piece and swap out my 1921 but ultimately decided against wearing it down further and destroying the circulated cameo. It will go in a snap-case and in the safe box. I have a 1900-O in similar condition that has rim damage all around the reverse rim due to rolling around in the coin machine before I happened to come along and pluck it our. It would be a good pocket piece candidate if I were really serious about swapping out the 1921.
