a buddy of mine found this coin after his dad died, looking for a rough value on his behalf, far as I can tell it's a Bavarian coin but my online searches have come up with nothing from 1876 that matches this coin!

Something is wrong here, Otto did not become king of Bavaria until 1886, Ludwig should be on this coin. I suspect you have a fake coin here.

5 Marks from German state of Bavaria. Looks like KM# 907, but the date is off. If those images are the same coin, Krause may not have the dates correct.

Sorry to be the bearers of bad news, but I have to agree. On this basis it cannot be genuine. Nor is it a "mint error", a wrong-date mule of some kind, since the dies used to make it were not genuine, either - the genuine coins have a denticled border; on this coin, the border has become detached from the rim, creating a beaded border. Compare with genuine Ludwig II reverse and Otto obverse.

wow thanks for the crazy fast answers guys I suspected it wasn't legit when I couldn't find any coins for that date with Otto on it, I'll let him know, thanks a bunch guys.
