This denarius was struck in 55 BC by the moneyer A. Plautius and celebrates the surrender of Bacchius the Jew (whose name and allegorical surrender you can see depicted on the reverse). Bacchius is likely Aristobulus II, the former Hasmonean King of Judaea whose rebellion against the Romans was put down in 57 BC. The obverse shows the goddess Cybele.

The reverse is modelled on an earlier type which shows the Nabatean King Aretas also kneeling in subjugation by a camel. More insane theories as to the identity of Bacchius the Jew are available online!

Excellent coin. It has also been suggested that the reverse figure could be Dionysius of Tripoli, because the Latin name for the Greek god Dionysius is Bacchus,
