Jeremy, That's a great start! I've been finding silver nickels about 2 in every three boxes, so not every box has one. So, very good; keep it up and let us know how you are doing!!

is 45 dollars for a roll of Buffalo nickels worth it? all dated prior to 1939. also how much does a box of nickels cost?

A box of nickels is 50 rolls and each roll is $2, so the box costs $100

XoG, Yes, I have overtaken you in the "race to complete set" department, but you have done what you have done searching far fewer rolls! Once you get up to 4500 rolls, you might have them all! I managed to find two of the ones I needed in a week. And the 51s was actually borderline AU! I'm still waiting for the thrill of finding a '39, and turning it over to see a little "D" to the right of Monticello!

Here's another update...found something REALLY strange in these rolls! 100 rolls 29 pre-1959 A Cincinnati Transit Token (amazing that this found it's way into a plastic shrink-wrapped Brinks bank roll! It is slightly smaller than a dime, and appears brass. One side says "CINCINNATI TRANSIT" with two buses. The other side says "ONE ADULT FARE" also with two buses. There are two sort of bent oval cuts through the token, that are obviously supposed to be there. I will post pics when I get my camera from my office) GRAND TOTALS TO DATE: 4500 rolls 1898 pre 1959 (5 most common: 1958d(177),1957d(147),1941(145),1940(133),1946(103) 78 silver nickels (3 most common: 1943P(17),1943S(15),1944P(14),1945P(14) 13 Buffalo nickels ((4)dateless,1920,1924,(2)1927,1928,1929,1929s,1935,1938d) 2 Proof (1987s,1993s) 3 Bermuda 5 cents (1970,1987,1996) 4 Bahamas 5 cents (1981,1998,(2)2000) 1 Belgium 1 Franc (1975) 1 Germany 50 Pfennig (1972) 1 Latvia 1 Lats (1992) 1 Somalia 5 Shillings (2000) 1 Unidentified foreign coin (no date) 1 Cincinnati Ohio Transit Token NEEDED TO COMPLETE SET: 38d,39d,43D,44S,50d

I just completed $100 in nickels. It was a target-rich environment this time, as I pulled out 31 1959 and earlier plus a 1983 Beaver-back. That is the most for me in 50 rolls, but I didn't find any silver, buffalo, or other "cool" finds.
