How are you, o-g?

Good find on the 42P! BUT, I still envy you all of those 1974d DDO halves!!

Here is another update.

After weeks of no foreign coin finds in the rolls (except for Canada, of course), found two different in these two boxes!

2 silver nickels (1942P,1944P)
1 1972 Germany 50 Pfennig

Hiya CND

I'm doing pretty well, thanks! I was pretty excited about the 42p as I don't seem to find many silver nickels in my searches. I did find one in circulation about a week ago although it was a common silver but still pretty exciting.

I was on a good roll finding the 74 DDOs, 5 within a couple weeks, but since then I have been skunked LOL. I traded the last one I had found (pretty beat up but you could still see the doubling) for that 1876 German Pfennig I mentioned in a different thread.

Well, time to head to work! Have fun and good luck in everyone's searching!!

Aluminum coin in a nickel roll that you can't spot a date on? My guess is a Japanese 1 Yen coin:

Another 100 roll update.....Couple of important finds this time around

Finally found a 1951s, down to needing only 6 to complete the set!
Also, found an at least MS60-63 1955d which definitely appears to be a D/S; once I get the equipment to post good close-up photos I'll post good pics.

Error on the last post; the grand total of pre-1959 coins is 1753, not 1686.

4100 rolls. Wowzers. I finished my second box. It has taken at least a month. I think a lot of it is being new and trying to figure out what I'm doing and what I want to save and how to get organized. I've changed so much so often and keep going over the same ground. After one nickel and penny box, I have at least eliminated $80 that I don't want and it has gone out the door. I bought another box last Friday and have opened one roll, and again have changed how I want to approach this. If I can ever get organized, I think I'll send up smoke signals or something. Normally I'm the most organized person in the room, but not on this one.

Hi Bobbi!

I manage to search the rolls very quickly because I'm only looking for a few things. I put aside all 2005 Buffalo reverse coins to check for doubled dies. I also check all of the 90d's for the missing FS initials. Other than that, I put aside the pre-1959 coins, and search later through those for the various most popular errors (39 doubled die, 43/2, 43 doubled die, 49d/s, 54s/d, 55d/s, etc. I can do a roll every two minutes on average.

Two minutes! No way I could get through that fast. It takes longer than that for me to get the loupe placed properly in my eyesight to see the coin. :-) And yes, even that takes some time. I bought a new loupe yesterday that has a nifty light on it. Again - still not what I want. I might get one of those that hangs on my head and makes me look like a professional somethingorother.

In my neophyte state, I save all nickels before 1960 and any errors that I see. But looking for errors requires intensive scrutiny, as my eyes are not trained to see anything. Guess I need to narrow my search criteria some.

i go through a box in 40 min to an hour, I search for buffs, v's, silvers, I put all pre 1960 to the side, I ususally dont search for errors, but major ones like die breaks and off center strikes appear once in a while and those are easy to spot. After the first few boxes you'll get the hang of it quickly.

CND, your sucess with roll researching had inspired finally get a box of nickels, I found 31 pre 1960, and one of which was a 1943-S silver nickel, 4 candian nickels, and some type of double died obv. 1999.
Not great, somewhat good I suppose for a 15 year olds first attempt!
