I just searched my frist nickel box last night. I found a few hole fillers and a handful of pre-1960. I also found a 2004-D Keelboat which was a hole filler... Most interesting to me was a 1920-D Buffalo which was hard to read the date. I also found a 1942-P Silver suprisingly! I usually search halves and haven't found a single silver, so this box of nickels was much more fun to go through!
EDIT: SORRY! It was a 1943-P Silver!

A 1920 d, impressive. And a 1942 P War Nickel, that would be a hole filler for me surprisingly. |

I had my first V nickel/Buffalo/War nickel tri-fecta box (1902, dateless, 1944p).

murrellington, sorry, I said 1942, but I checked again and it was a 1943-P. I too was very, very surprised to see the 1920-D buffalo! The date is pretty hard to make out though. I just checked ebay for the value and was pretty surprised to see them going for about $4-$10 bucks! |

$100 bag on nickels and my biggest War Nickel finds, (5)!   42p 43p (2) 44p 45s Also found a couple 40s & 50 hole fillers. |

Searched another box and got a very nice AU 1952S, a 1944D (my third in four boxes), and a 1978 Belgian Franc.

I got some rolls today, but nothing of huge value. Among some of the coins I got were two 1941s, 1939p and a 2009p (my 6th one. I only have one 2009d)

After reading all of your roll hunting adventures I decided to dip my toe in the water today. Bought $20 worth of nickels today in an effort to complete my grandpa's 1938-1961 Whitman album that I have. Not much luck but did find one hold filler (1959) and a 1942 (sadly not silver and a repeat). How much is in a box? It is pretty relaxing to sort while watching sports or something on TV. I may pick up a box. Any advice on where to go or what to ask for to get the most bang for your buck? Thanks. Oh I will share my very limited haul:  |

dmagku: A box of nickels is $100 and it will have 50 rolls in it. I just go to my banks and ask to buy a box of nickels. I have never been turned down yet. And if you like customer wrapped rolls, you can ask for those too. Sometimes the tellers thank me for taking coins off of their hands.

No hole fillers, still have 5 left to fill. Hast hole filler was 19 boxes ago. I tossed 4 2009 d nickels back to the wild from this box that didn't look so good. the 1959 was an upgrade, it looks BU and has awesome steps. If I can't get a hole filler, i'll take upgrades!

dmagku, don't forget to have a plan to return your box of $100 of nickels. if you need wrappers, get them when you get your box. if you plan on using a machine in a bank, see if it charges you first. Just have a plan before you accumulate them!
