bbradford71- Wow, you will probably get all the pre 1959 coins in no time. And surely you aren't trying for the gem 5 step coins for all years are you? Or are you starting at 1960 or something? It seems like it would be impossible to do that for every date, like the early years. And one of the last War Nickels I found had some cool blue toning. This picture doesn't do it justice. Actually I am, if I just wanted to fill holes with any shape coin I could then I would have several albums finished already but I am not trying to do that. You would be amazed at how many really nice older nickels I have found, it is all about volume, the more boxes searched the higher your chance of finding some real gems. I found a 49P last week that was AU and had full steps. Yes it may take me several years to finish my album and I may have to purchase several of the older coins to do so, but I am going for quality. |

FYI: I love the blue toning on the 43, I have been saving all cool toned nickels I come across, have been thinking of starting a new album just for cool toned nickels as well. I am young, (40) and figure that I have a long time of roll searching that eventually I will have some really nice albums completed some day.

Tough, but not impossible. I know a fellow who has a set, all graded; the lowest being 4.5. Most 67-69. He's asking 150K.

I don't think I could ever sell my collection, I am not in oi for money, I enjoy searching boxes and finding really cool coins. I get just as excited when I find a really cool foreign coin as I do when I find a buffalo or a low mintage Jefferson in great condition. I would love to get my nices into collecting as well, it was something that my grandfather and I did together when I was little for his collection and I treasure that time we spent together.

Well, I'd like to join in the fun that all you guys are having. I've probably read over 100 pages of this thread and decided it was my time to jump in. I used to roll hunt halves a while ago and I've decided that I wanted to roll hunt other coins as well, including nickels. So, without further delay, here are my stats for the first box and $100 in customer wrapped nickels. Box #1 dateless buffalo no silver nickels 1 1941-P 3 1946-P 1 1946-S 2 1948 P 1 1953-D 1 1954-D 1 1957-P 1 1957-D 2 1958-D 2 1959-D $100 in CWR no buffalo no silver 1 1940-P 1 1941-D 1 1946-D 1 1952-P 1 1953-D 1 1954-P 2 1954-D 2 1955-D 1 1956-P 2 1957-D 1 1959-D That's it. Hopefully I can get another few boxes soon. Can't wait to find my first War Nickel either. |

I think I am going to cash in $100 in face value of my $5 silver certificates to get a box of nickels with my local teller. Lucky for me, she holds anything she finds, and she will hold the $5 bills for me. I have not made up my mind yet.

Tonight I cracked 5 rolls out of my 2nd 2012 nickel box and in my 2nd roll I got a hole filler - a not-too-bad (but also not-too-great) 1943-S. Also a 46-D (not a hole filler). Hopefully the rest of the box has as good a hit rate! SteedaFLA, you'll get your War Nickel, just takes time. Great finds, no matter the shape. |

TheDanMan, not to shabby there. That's kinda why I like collecting Jeffersons. Every box has something interesting. Usually way too many 63's and 64's though. :)
