Thanks eddiespin! Haven't seen you on this thread, but then again I'm relatively new, so I'll say WELCOME!! Anyways, very nice find on the 1942S, it's a beauty!

Thanks 22! You're right, this is my first rattle out of the cradle in this thread. We're basically penny and half dollar searchers, and I didn't really need another addiction. But, last week, when I saw how long this thread was getting, I just thought to myself, what could it hurt, if I just read one or two pages? Yeah, sure. Ended up reading the whole thing in one night, and now we're nickel addicts, too! :)

Thank you very much for the warm welcomes, guys, and for the kudos on our find. I'm here for the duration, now, and there's nothing anybody can do about it.

Passed through 90,000 coins (2250 rolls) searched last night ..... here are my rate statistics so far. Keep in mind ..... I keep all 1959 and earlier and I live in Maryland. I do not have a bank like _22_ that doles out beauties in every box! Overall Find RatesOverall find rate is 1.261% ... translates to 1 coin every 1.98 rolls and 25.2 coins per box as a long-term average. I find a 1930's every 56.3 rolls I find a 1940's (exclude War Silver) every 5.1 rolls I find a 1950's every 3.6 rolls Special Coin RatesFor those new to my definition ..... 'special coins' are anything pre-Jefferson, War Silver and any of the nine (9) 'key' Jefferson with annual mintage below 10 million. I find a 'special' every 54.9 rolls I find a "V" every 2250 rolls (found only 1) I find a Buffalo every 250 rolls (found 9) I find a War Silver every 107.1 rolls (found 21) I find a 'key' Jefferson every 225 rolls (found 10) Circulation Loss ObsolescenceFor those new to this ..... I have developed an MS-Excel algorithm to track my finds and one of the calculations is circulation loss ..... in simple terms "what percentage of the original mintage has been lost from circulation". 1930's loss is 85.5% Pre-War 1940's loss is 81.2% War Silver loss is 98.6% Post-War 1940's loss is 77.5% Early 1950's loss is 72.3% Late 1950's loss is 70.2% Amazing Frustration with my '38-PI have found a total of 40 Jefferson from the 30's .... 1 each 1938-D 36 each 1939-P 1 each 1939-D 2 each 1939-S And not a single stinking good-for-nothin' 1938-P! I think CND and _22_ have stolen them all. My Quest to Complete the Set from Rolls:I need six coins to finish ...... 1938-P .... arrrrgh 1938-S 1942-S 1943-D 1944-D 1950-D I'm not giving up until I am done. Glad to be here with this forum ........ Enjoy David

Nice detailed results so far nickelsearcher! I currently also only have six left to complete my set. You lack... (1938-P 1938-S 1942-S 1943-D 1944-D 1950-D) While I lack... (1938-D 1939-D 1944-S 1946-S 1950-D 1951-S) Ironically enough, five of the six we each lack are different! The only date/mint that we are both missing is the 1950-D (no surprise here). Of the ones you are missing I have found (2-38P, 1-38S, 3-42S, 1-43D, 4-44D, 0-50D) I am currently at 52,000 nickels (1300 rolls) searched so far. I just thought I would share this with you as I find it quite intriguing Best of luck finding your remaining six. Keep us updated and I will do the same!

Thanks for the detailed feedback _22_ ........
Of the ones you are missing ..... I have found (1-38D, 1-39D, 1-44S, 2-46S, 0-50D and 2-51S)
Looks like there is still hope for both of us!
Best

Not to be a downer, guys, but it took me 8100 rolls to complete my set. The 50d was the killer!
_22_, I'm surprised you have found all of the "D" mint warnickels. They are incredibly tough!

I am quite surprised myself, I assumed the 1943-D would take me forever to find based on its low mintage and the fact that you've only found 2 so far, however that amazing box I did the other day contained eight silver with one being my first and only 43-D! As for the 44-D and 45-D I never had a problem finding either, it's the 44-S that's giving me trouble.
