okiecoiner Pillar of the Community Canada 5605 Posts	Posted 03/09/2017 7:44 pm I said "heavily cleaned" because it's an F or low VF coin that doesn't have an ounce of dirt or crud in any of the crevices anywhere. The surface luster or chocolate brown that it should have is all washed out. How can anyone say that this WASN'T heavily cleaned? It really doesn't even look like copper. colonialtokens Pillar of the Community United States 840 Posts	Posted 03/09/2017 10:52 pm I concur, the absence of crud is strong evidence of having been cleaned at some point. But in some cases this is not necessarily a bad thing. Mild cleaning may enhance a coin if the amount of crud is substantial. And if the placement of the crud is camouflaging diagnostic die markers beneath as to make a positive attribution impossible. The trick is to remove the crud without disturbing the surface (colour, etc.) of the coin. doug Report this Post to the Staff
