1929 S LWC With Odd Date

Take a look at the second 9 in the date on this coin. It looks really odd. I don't see any damage on the high points or low points around the 9 that could have caused this. How did this happen? What am I seeing?

I think a 9 in that position is prone to getting shoved over by coin counting/rolling machines.

Wait for confirmation. I'm not sure.

In the second photo I can kind of see where the tail of the 9 originally was. Using a lot of imagination perhaps.

It's damaged. Do a search for Rolling Machine Damage and you'll find several more threads with coins similar to this one.

I agree with all of the above - there are coins on here with that type of Rolling Machine Damage on the very last digit of the date frequently..

Looks like a vending machine damaged this one. It is parallel to the rim. A Coin Wrapping Machine would damage the coin more towards the center.
