I've been collecting wheat pennys for years for my wife and I came across this last night at first I thought it might be a double die but I'm no expert in these coins I just like to collect them for my wife (I get them and briefly browse them before she puts them in a box) any input is welcome and thanks in advance. Sorry about pictures they suck but it's all I am able to do right now I need to figure out this system a little better   The back side has sort of a flat spot, I would say it's a little ovaled towards the edge  Edited by sjmeeks123

@sjm, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes your pics are a bit blurry, but it looks like this coin has taken a hit. Is there a flattened area on the other side of this coin that corresponds to area?

Ok yes, based on what I can see, this definitely looks like damage. Others will weigh in too, so keep checking back for more opinions.

Ok great looking forward to it. Never been included in any forum before. I guess next question would be where to go with it or what to do with it.

I think Spence is right (he usually is), it looks as if your cent has taken a blow, and a very strong one at that. This isn't a mint error, we'd classify this as post mint damage ( PMD).   to the CCF! We look forward to seeing what other coins you might have to share!  |

to the CCF As others have stated it is just damage. ( PMD) It is a Wheatie though so tell your wife to hang on to it and put in the box. |

Thanks all, I was able to get a few clearer pictures I'll try to add to post just so everyone can see a clearer image, right now I'd say the wife has about 10 pounds of these wheat pennies, I have 100 or so of the steel pennies I don't know why but they are my favorite  Edited by sjmeeks123
