Hello. My wife and I have recently started searching for errors coins. We came across this 1975 nickel. no mint mark. It isn't in the best shape but it has a strange image that appears to be behind the building, behind the L in Monticello and behind the S in cents. It also has a change in tone around those areas. Someone suggested that it could be a "vice coin" but I've found one of those and I believe those is raised from the coin. I've taken several pics at different angles to try and show this. I've spent hours searching and the best match I can find is a possible die clash

to CCF.

Well it dies seem to line up with Jefferson's head. There is a bit of the anomaly on the Building on the right side and in the left of the dome on the left side.

Lets see what others have to say. There are a few folks here that can overlay Obverse and reverse on the same image to a comparison.

It is called Progressive Indirect Die Transfer (DIDT) A form a die aging seen on Cents and Nickels. On larger Denominations it is called a Halo. They are not a premium, just an explanation of what it is.

First one I've seen that was raised above the fields though.

I'd soak it in acetone, got a feeling it's some kind of substance like tinted nail polish

Nice to learn about another possible die error that I never heard of or looked for.

Like always, loved the photos and descriptions to define and explain.

Thank you for all the supportive answers. I saw pictures like that while I was searching but they never gave that definition.

I think Greasy hit the nail on the head with the advice provided. I too see caked paint or some substance on the surface of your coin.

While these are not a premium item, it is always nice to know that they are. (When you don't know, you always want to know)
