NGC - Coin of the Day: On this day in 1812, Napoleon began his retreat from Moscow. This France 1812-dated Bronze Medal celebrates his entry into Moscow just a few weeks earlier, but the Russians abandoned and burned the city, forcing the French to withdraw.

very nice medal!
But if the Russians performed a 'scorched Earth' operation and left, I would have kept moving forward (but then I'm no General or Supreme Leader to make those decisions.

The Russians not only forced the French to withdraw, but themselves also occupied Paris in March 1814.
This is how the word "bistro" came about.
There's also a medal for the capture of Paris.

Besides the combat medal, there are also commemorative medallions.
I recommend finding F. P. Tolstoy's medallions.
