Broken N On Large Cent. What Caused This?

malissadawn Pillar of the Community Canada 1931 Posts	Posted 06/23/2009 5:55 pm I was taking some pictures of the coins included in my sets and noticed an interesting letter N in regina on an 1881 H large cent. Any idea how this can occur. It looks like it was an incomplete N and had to be repunched but how can that be on only one letter? thanks for opinions Report this Post to the Staff

DBM Pillar of the Community Canada 9875 Posts	Posted 06/24/2009 10:30 am It's a repunched n.Quite often in Victorian times to extend the life the die,it was heated and a single letter or number was repunched by a sometimes unsteady hand.
