t0rress - Checking the area of the holes with a microscope may be enough to see if there is a color change.
The coins all have holes - so you can check inside the hole and even remove a small scraping of metal without damaging the value if any. So start by looking then lightly cut into the inside of the coin and watch for a color change. If it still looks good you can check the metal filings with acid. Jewelers have the acid you need and you can tell if the metal is gold since it does not dissolve in acid.
The coins could be checked for Specific Gravity but they are so small that you would need an analytical scale that accurately measures to 1/10,000th of a gram.
