1965 Clearly Clashed Dime - Coin Community Forum

RollSeeker Valued Member United States 366 Posts	Posted 08/13/2011 12:02 am Here follows the account of the finding of the 1965 clashed dime (no allusion to Lord of the Rings ) After getting skunked on a box o' dimes, I begin looking through those I pulled out under my new coin lamp. Some, 2011's with small nicks and some 1988-D's that don't have RPMs go back into the spend pile. I happened to pull out some better looking older ones too, including an MS 1977-D. And then I ponder upon an interesting 1965. Hmmm, very late die state obverse, but let's see what's on the reverse. Hmmm, well that's interesting. What's this little line doing here? Let's keep looking! WOAH! Is that former president roosevelt on the reverse!? Better check again! Yes, it's a winner! A flip of the coin and it's head's either way! Upon checking the obverse, there are just a very few minor lines to indicate the clash there, but also this curious die break on Roosie's head. RollSeeker Valued Member United States 366 Posts	Posted 08/13/2011 11:27 am Does anyone know if roosie dime clashes always have the head appearing on the reverse, or can it go either way? I would think that the head on the obverse takes up most of the coin making it hard for the anvil die to leave traces on the obverse. Although I have also mentioned above that a couple of minor lines are visible on the obverse, I wonder how much more 'extreme' it can get. Report this Post to the Staff
