Since I collect silver dollars (including thalers, daalders, 8 reales, ecu, scudo, rouble etc.) I have been thinking about a year set that runs depth-wise rather than breadth-wise. It's a work in progress (especially the last one). Here's what I have so far. ~jack 1960 Canada 1 Dollar, 36mm, 23.33g, 80% silver 1860 US 1 Dollar, 38.1mm, 26.73g, 90% silver 1760 Mexico 8 Reales, 38mm, 27.07g, 91.7% silver 1660 Netherlands Ducaton, 45mm, 32.78g, 94.1% silver

What a great idea. A year set from so many countries but, I think the cost might be pretty high. Maybe i'll just year sets from 10-20 counties that would be fine for me. I wish I could help more.

Sorry to bring this thread to life again, but wasn't really a good alternative place to post this. I recently purchased this coin online, and it arrived today It was in a 2x2 flip and barely fit. It's 44.5 mm wide, about 3 mm thick, and weighs almost 42 grams. 1968 Tonga 2 Pa'Anda

Nice! I put together a BYS about 5 years ago. My aim was just one from each country, and wherever possible, a circulating coin rather than commemorative. There were 68 countries. I was surprised to learn during that exercise how many countries didn't issue coins every year.
It's a lot of fun, and doesn't have to be very expensive. My priciest coin was a beautiful South Africa 5 shilling that set me back all of $30. I was able to find at least half of them for under $5.

Mine started out as one coin from each country. That changed to coinS from each country. That recently changed to includes bills. I guess the British Sovereign is the most expensive.
Currently I have 95 Countries: 325 coins, 8 bills

A long time ago I saw this post and it got me started. All countries for my birth year. For my kids, my parents my grandparents I started looking for theirs too but only for countries pertaining to heritage. England France and Germany.

Countries of a person's herita ge would be a nice connection to their genealogy.

Yeah, I got one of those going too ... Poland. And a U.S. date set (partial) for 1907, the year my grandfather arrived in the U.S. (no Polish date set that year ... or for the prior 110 years).
