My guess would be MS63 but would definately have to hold in hand. I have a 1878 8TF that without very careful examination most people would think it was a MS64+, it's frosty full strike, minimal bags, and very lustrous but on real close examination you can see it's a AU58. Anyways,...REALLY NICE COIN!

As stated, extremely tough coin in any MS grade. FMV shoots to the moon after AU58. Having said that, very nice coin and a tough date in higher AU grades.

The coin is currently residing in an intercept shield holder but I will be sending it to PCGS once I conjure up 8 coins worthy of their examination. I think this coin has very little chance of making MS. The reverse I believe is MS but the obverse has seen some circulation. I agree that this will most likely get an AU-55 or 58 depending on their mood. Thanks everyone for the comments!

Quote: How does one circulate a coin on only one side? Cabinet friction or jewlery mounting and wear most likely. But the more I look at this coin the more I like it, Still think the minor rub or wear is only on the obverse myself, wish I had an example this nice regardless of the final grade. This is one pretty dollar.

This would get 62-63 as a common date, but I'm betting on AU-58 too. Might want to try reslabbing several times if the value difference is massive.

I am thinking AU-58 ... maybe MS-60 but doubtful. I would only get it graded once because not much difference in values of AU-58, MS-60 and MS-62. It is a beautiful coin.

Quote: How does one circulate a coin on only one side? You got me there. I guess if you saw it in half, you could spend it as a half dollar. It reminds of the pocket change I have lying around which could be considered both circulated and uncirculated at the same time. But like Westcoin said, cabinet friction could be the source of it. Coinvet, you may want to take a second look at the prices of this coin. This coin has an exponential price structure. On Heritage, AU-58's go for $1000-1300, MS-60's for around $5000+, MS-62's for around 2-3x the MS-60 price, and a MS-65 can buy a house. So there is a lot of incentive to resubmit until you get the grade you want.

Congrats! I agree that just looking at the reverse, I would say ms. But the obv does give me just the slightest bit pause. Even at AU that is a great coin!

AU58 is nothing to scoff at. That's a tough coin 58 and higher!
