I don't see anything here that screams real gold. They are old and do have some value.

If I have time tomorrow I will bring them to a jeweler, if they are deemed not gold, where should I bring them for an appraisal? Or will the jeweler do that also?

With no standard markings I would say they are not gold. However your jeweler can test for gold in less than a minute. There was a Harry J Lomiller that was a jeweler in 1963 but that was in Shawano Wisconsin. Of course Escanaba is in Michigan.

Good Luck

I agree with MK. These look like they are plated with gold at best. Most jewelers will appraise items like this for free, so it won't cost you anything to find a good opinion of their quality and value. If I had those and they turned out to be worth a few bucks, I would sell them and convert the extra cash into some nice 90% silver coins. There will be no doubt as to their value.

Interesting find MK, Shawano is only a 3 hour drive away! Maybe he made it for a shop here in Michigan, I don't know. I guess I will wait to see what the jeweler says.

Thanks for everyones input.

Well put Ed. Those are exactly my plans. Whatever the value be it $10 or $500. I will be putting every penny of that into silver

I've seen a lot of cuff links that were similar to these. Based on the ones I've seen I'd say these have about a 60-70% chance of being gold. These may or may not have been made by the jewelers whose name is on the box. It's a fairly common practice for jewelers to have their store logo printed on items they sell but don't make.

Hmm. Interesting. Well, hopefully Noon eastern time tomorrow I will update whether or not these are gold, and/or worth anything.....

Wish me luck!

Strange I look at these cuff links thinking they are gold, but realistically all I'm thinking about is buying more silver with whatever they're worth

Get a simple rock sharpening stone and a gold acid testing kit on ebay perhaps with a choice of 10k, 14k, 18k, and finally 22k acid....

Little trick many do not know....You can drop 18k acid on a scratch mark that is testing real good via 14k on a piece that is say for example 14k, and if you see a FLASH of blueish/silver for just about a nano second, you are most likely dealing with plated gold over sterling....

Cufflinks are a classy bit of style, not to much as one guy with a handle bar mustache once said on Pawn stars, as he agreed to buy a rare set from a maker from Europe, via the designer who made them was a big name in cufflinks. They were sterling silver as well and he paid 200 for them....

My point, decent chance they are gold as cufflinks often are made with unique medals or have coins designed in them even. There is a real classy shop in the mall that has some fantastic antique cufflinks, via one set with a two real nice Merc dimes and another with and Indian Head penny. I thought wow that would be neat to own both sets, and they probably bring a decent price on bay and have their little click of collectors just about like all things collectible....

Hawk, I know what you meant, but reading "if you see a FLASH of blueish/silver for just about a nano second" made me laugh.

Difficult to tell from photos but could possibly be 9k-14k gold fronts mounted on non-PM backings from the look of them. Certainly no harm taking them for appraisal.

I thought long and hard about this and my conclusion is that the black areas on the back of the link is where they soldered the clasp to hold them together, but the actual cuff link itself is most likely made of gold.

I agree 100% about the soldered point and the rest being gold very possibly....

Well, brought it into 2 different jewelers. Both did tests on it. Seems to be brass? I figure brass on the back with the solder and actual links, but the front definitely looks gold, or at least plate but. Apparently not.

Well, no extra money to go towards some new silver. So I bought some anyways. 2 more ASE's and another OZ of junk
