just a wild guess then: AU-50
Since PCGS is grading it, it will probably conservatively stay out of the MS zone having only 'light luster'.
IMHO, mdpmedia

If that's the actual label in the background, they are way off in my opinion! I'll guess AU50 too.

@ Vermontensium. Shhhhh. That's why I couldn't pass on it even thought it hurt my wallet badly. My plan is to resubmit.

yeah I will join in and say VF-35 is a very harsh grade for that coin if it looks anything like those pictures and I don't see how a picture could add detail. If you got it for VF-35 money you did very well in my opinion. I will agree with XF-45 at least and have no idea how they got that grade. Must have hired a blind grader or an EAC member for that day or something

It does appear to have EF-45 detail at a minimum. For it to be graded only 35 I would assume it has some defect that led PCGS to give it a "net grade"; however, anything severe enough to drop it by 10 points (or more) should also have relegated it to a "problem" slab. Based on these images the assigned grade is a real puzzler.
I presume your best bet for a higher grade will be to crack it out and submit raw. Of course you run the risk that whatever caused PCGS to give it such a low initial grade will this time be judged to be a problem. You would then have a "Genuine" coin with a details grade. Please keep us posted on your progress!
By the way, it sure looks like an excellent example for a type set. It's head and shoulders above most Classic Head cents.

I don't think I'll be able to crack and resubmit this one. Ill likely just take the chance of resubmitting in the slab one time to see if they will upgrade it that way. Too much of a gamble to crack if it came back in a details slab (even though I think that chance is low)
I also like the coin a ton even in a vf35 slab... It isn't one I'm planning on selling. I did have to pay 40/45 money for it, but since these come along so rarely in nice condition and without issues, I still jumped on it.

PCGS says VF35, you can see part of the label in the photo above. xxx64.35/261780. So guess I cheated. The coin looks far nicer than only 35.

Nah, an EAC grader would have gone 35/50 :-)

He showed this to me and I told him to grab it as fast as possible, after getting some angled pics and checking it out of course : )

Actually almost looks AU...but VF35. The surfaces might not be superb which could have resulted in a net grade.

You gotta be kidding me on VF35. It's far nicer than that IMO. She is a beauty!

Any ideas on why it would get a vf35 ? That doesn't make sense at all.

This look at least above average as these come...they're always ugly. I've seen many AU's with this detail and you have to wait around awhile for a deal.
