Hold on now. Full retail on that coin runs 525.00. And VF is 700. So you believe you can get a VF coin at the same as the FRV of a Good?
That aside, I rather like the look of this coin. BUT, if you do not (as is obvious since you asked in the first place as you said) then it is certainly too much. I don't know that you are going to find a VF in that price range, but I am sure you could find a good you would be happier with.

IMHO, I tend to side with smokeriderdon on this one. Seems to be a nice, problem free coin and at a very decent in-hand price. I already own one, but may consider working the seller down to something like $350 and leaving with the coin. But then again, if you are more drawn to Washington quarters... then IHCs are probably out of your league.

Absolutely not - IMHO, it doesn't make much sense for someone who is not interested in Indian Head cents to buy a key date in the series. It would be like me buying the 1932-D Washington quarter although I don't collect quarters. In fact, quarters of all types are really out of my league, because I don't know nearly as much about them as I do Indian Head cents... and I'm not interested in obtaining a set. If you are wishy-washy about which series you'd like to collect, then I would encourage you to start a Dansco 7070 set. That is exactly what I did, and after completing my Lincoln collection... I realized that Indian cents is where I want to play ball. Cheers.

I guess I am not sure .. why any coin or coins would be out of anyones league. (of course I am not talking the super high end coins) As far as buying key dates .. IMO .. buying only the key dates would be the smartest thing to do. Quote: then I would encourage you to start a Dansco 7070 set. I do have the 7070, mine is complete .. including gold page (always in upgrade stage) also complete Lincoln Dansco 8100 .. complete, except 1922 no D Jefferson nickels with proofs completed BU/proof Roosevelt dime with proofs completed BU/proof Washington quarters 1932 - 1998 with proofs completed (upgrading) Washington quarters 1999 - date, multiples sets completed, including clad and silver proofs, plus over 100 rolls of BU's Kennedy halves Dansco "P" and "D" completed BU Kennedy halves Dansco with proofs .. completed BU/proofs All modern dollars in dansco completed Modern commemorative dollars Uncirculated complete set Silver american eagle BU and proof .. complete except 1995W as for classics Dollar date set 1878 to 2013 complete Mercury dime .. need 1916D Libery head nickels, need 1885 and 1886 (low grade set) Walking Lib half dollar and Buffalo nickels about have done I am sure I am forgeting some, of course there are boxes and boxes of coins in 2X2 flips. Oh .. my Indian Head cent Dansco ( I had to go dig it out) needs 8 coins to complete. this is a set I really never put a effort into completing But I guess I am not in a "league" to buy that 1909 S. Truth is .. if I was offered the 09S at $330 .. I would have bought it .. of course it is still there and when the time is right .. I may end up with it yet. I buy enough coins where local dealers sell to me below or at greysheet. The 09 S indian greysheets from good $400 to VF $550. I do not feel good about buying a G/VG at $400, when.. if a VF comes along I could pick up in the $550 range. But then were back to .. I collect coins .. but would say I am not crazy about IHC's

LOL wow, Ok? I explained to you exactly why certain coins would be out of my league. I'm not here to have a war of words with you, sorry.
And if you're looking to pick a fight, please don't PM me again.
Cheers.

I have thought about this post for a day or so and feel I need to respond one more time.
I do not go out to pick a fight. But if someone talks down to me or insults me than I will respond.
Saying something is out of "one's league" and terms like being "wishy-washy, are both terms a person would use to talk down to someone, or insult them.
Offering opinions about a coin or a member saying how they collect coins are the positive approaches.
I get on this site to share my collection, and how I collect .. and get opinions on a coin I am thinking about purchasing, not to be insulted.
Also if you don't want to receive a PM .. then turn them off.

Alright guys, back to your corners. I doubt any comments were made to the OP in an effort to be deliberately insulting. Let's get back on topic here with the original question about the price. I still think $400 is a touch high (but maybe not), but as was suggested, maybe talk the dealer down a little to make it more of a good buy if you can. If not, it's not a total ripoff or anything. I also think if you are just going to buy one or two of a particular type of coin, buying keys or semi-keys does make some sense from an investment standpoint.

SkyShark, thank for your opinion on the topic ..
But .. as far as "deliberately insulting" it does not matter if it was deliberate or not .. it is insulting .. and it should be address so it won't happen again

anyways,
I think this coin is an ok buy for 400. That also looks like a pretty strong good to me. I'd need to see better pics, but it could be a VG-8. The coin is certainly problem free and looks to have a nice original color. It is a "choice" lower end 09-S....if such a thing exists. Again, 400 seems alright to me. 450 would seam slightly high, but 350 would be an obvious buy.

hesgut .. I think you have a pretty good eye .. this coin is better looking in hand .. than the pictures I really had trouble getting a good pidture of it .. I did have a local IHC expert take a look at it, he pretty much said the same thing you posted.

Had you been at the Florida FUN show last January (somebody was), that sum plus $11 at the Heritage Auction would have bought you an example in PCGS F15 with some full letters and you could have walked out with it in your pocket. In this market, I do not see the coin pictured here as a $400 piece. Nice? Yes. $400? No.
This is a great time to be hunting keys, whether you collect them or not. Not necessarily "buying," with the implication that you're going to scarf whatever you can find, but "hunting" with the understanding that *some* really nice pieces are going for prices you probably won't see again soon
I urge all involved in this discussion to visualize whatever you say here as happening in the context of a conversation with someone you've never met, over a couple cups of coffee at Dunkin' Donuts, where everyone can hear what you're saying. It's the greatest fallacy of the Internet; you can talk without seeing the eyes or body language of your partner in conversation. It's remarkable just how important that aspect is, isn't it?

GR58 - It is a shame your ego was so shamed by my use of the word "league". Perhaps you should take some time off, go for a hike, and appreciate the opportunities you have each day to enjoy the day.
Cheers, and I hope you never, ever send me unsolicited PMs again. My availability is meant for those who are interested in numismatics, not making threats. Get lost.
I'd encourage a PM to close this thread before GR58 makes another attempt at taring me down, it is ridiculous.

What threats .. ?
You keep making it worse by not understanding how negative the words you choose are.
It seems everytime you post to me .. you are more negative.
All I am saying .. as SuperDave said well, think about what you say on here.
