Made me wonder how people hear about those types of sales. I'd have tried for that entire mess myself but probably couldn't afford it all. Wonder how much all that cost. Not sure if I'd want to see all that though. Might make me spend to much time saying things like why not me.

Are some of the coins going to be offered for sale....? I'd love an opportunty to get one of those 31S Lincolns. Any Merc's? I have a few holes in my Mercury dime collection.

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to share with all of us.
This collector was pulling the 31-S's out of circulation the year I was born...wish I had a time machine!

Bjorn (owner of Kearney Coin Center in Kearney, Nebraska 308-455-1550) is the new owner of this hoard. There were a couple completed Mercury dime sets, one complete Buffalo set, another almost complete Buff set, and, and, and. Mint and proof sets from the 50's, and 60's....individual coins from the 1700's on...you might be surprised.

This was truly overwhelming. Of course Bjorn gave me little hints of what was in this lot, as he remembered them from his notes of the appraisal.
I actually looked at the Wheat Cents last - not because I was saving them for last, but because there was sooooooooo much other stuff that I have not seen, in hand, previously. The Fugio cent was definitely a highlight. Looking for the BIG money error coins (just in case), looking at the key dates in the sets (the 3 legged Buff is a NICE, circulated coin), finding a 23 S Standing Libery Quarter in the "bullion" pile of quarters, looking for full bell line Franklins in the Mint sets.......oh my...it just continues.

Stopped by the coin shop on Friday to help/view finishing off the final inventory of this hoard. In this hoard, there was a small canvas bank bag of "error" cents. 90% of these were post mint damaged coins. About 20 cents and nickels were clipped. Minor clips, but still clips. I had the pleasure to check ALL of the Lincoln cents (1909 to 1937) that were stored in yellow paper flips. The owner of the hoard had labeled and graded every coin. Assigned grades a little high on some and low on most. The new owner has sold off about half of the 31 S Lincolns, so I pulled, inspected, and gave each a grade. Some of these are UNC, but have the nasty GREEN on them. In the storage container for the 31 S, at the bottom, was two pieces of paper. See pictures attached. Can you imagine OWNING that many?

Quote: I wonder how many coins like the 2009 nickels and dimes I / we all have and throw them in a tube or bulk pile that 30 years from now will be worth a lot more than we thought at the time we put them away. Oh there might be something that may have some value, but it most likely won't be the 2009's Look at the 1959's, they had lower mintage and weren't widely saved like the 2009's were. And after 50+ years how much of a premium are they bringing? Little to none.
