I am currently working on a few new projects, but alas, I will be seen on the coin show circuit before too long breaking out some very exciting news.

Note (weak knees, dizzy and staggering). Gee ND, that is one beautiful coin. I love the nickel series anyway and when I see something like that I melt.... Thanks for sharing..!

The nickel series as a whole is a very unappreciated coin. Most collectors tend to follow the crowd and pass up on these low mintage, stunningly beautiful coins. This particular coin, with a population of 1 was sold for the measely sum of $2500.00 Very undervalued in my opinion. Here are a couple of others in the Shield Series. ND you are killing me!!! All of those coins would fit right into my fledgling collection of Shields! I wish I could download a photo of this 1869 but we purchased a new printer/copier/scanner a while back and the darn thing can not get information through the port on our hard drive as it was set up for three seperate incoming lines! Will probably add a new hard drive in the very near future as it is causing some major stumbling blocks at this time which MUST be corrected. Until then I have to say I got a "keeper" on this 69!!!

Do those come with an easy payment plan? It is really amazing what is really out there and it is even more amazing what can be seen on a NEW coin forum so quickly! Thanks ND!

ND, You're not being fair showing me all these nice nickels when I can't get to them.. . You know I have a special liking for that Shield nickel w/rays. The one you show is exceptionally nice as there are only one or two die breaks. As you know it's really hard to find a nice Shield nickel with rays that don't have a die break. I found an 1866 that had nine. Couldn't figure what was keeping the die together. Thanks again for taking the time to share. catman

As you know, the early Shield nickels were much an experiment for the U.S. mint. While their success with the Three Cent Nickel provided some basis for the much larger Five Cent coin, die fatigue was more common than not. Finding true unblemished gems take long and hard searches. Since this started as a gold thread, does that mean that you actually want gold nickels? I could plate some Liberty's for you

I know that they're not worth much in the market, but I love the Liberty Head design in gold. It brings out so much of the detail. Thanks for posting that, ND

They sell for about $10 at the shows. Really a neat story to share with the budding collectors.

Back in 1969 I had about 20 of those plated gold. (They were really cheap then) I held on to them until the stock market boys invaded us. I was offered $50 each for them and sold the whole works.
