If that puppy is real it would be about $5000 and up coin. Looks like it would fall in the AU range. Large photos especially of the mint mark for some of the experts to look over for you. nlp

I'm just waiting to hear from one of the Mercury experts on the mint mark position. Hope it's genuine for your sake!

I hope it is real.. I don't know enough about this series to comment on authenticity.. But wow... Found in a penny roll... That would be one heck of a find!

Hmmm... I'm gonna stab in the dark and say that the 'D' looks a bit too big and too low. It also looks like it's made of something other than silver, don't know why bu it reminds me of the metal comp used for Canadian dimes... Any chance that you've done a tissue or drop test to check if it's silver?
Just comparing to a google image search so it is by no means an educated guess.

I'm an amateur at Mercury dimes but consider me not convinced it's real. That D does not seem consistent with authentic examples, and the rim is really chewed up and poorly formed making me think it was struck as a counterfeit.

I don't like the 'E' next to the mint mark, but that could just be the result of a Grease Filled Die. The 'N' next to it looks a little faint as well. I don't like the 'MER' in 'AMERICA', but that could just be the result post mint impact damage, OR a Grease Filled Die. The arms of the stars (rev.), are a little uneven. Check to see if the edge millimg is uneven or shallow in places. I have a hunch that this is OK. The overall impression of Mercury is a little indistinct, but that could be due to a weak strike or worn die. Interesting, because the hubs early on in this series would have been in excellent condition. I will leave it to others to comment of the detail in the leaves and branches.

The rims and relief look a little off, but I don't see high grade 16 D's a lot. I'm leaning toward fake, but really have no expert basis to back it up. I hope I'm wrong!

There is something about it that does not seem "right". The letters on the reverse and the D. I hope I am wrong, that would be an incredible find.
EDIT: I just read through the thread. Confirmed fake.
