you guys need to lighten up, the seller isn't a coin dealer, or even a collector. honestly I've seen worse from people in the business/hobby. lets see some of your work before you criticize or make fun of others. i'll admit at first glance they do look pretty bad but using the roll over zoom function the following are right click/paste copies (without any further post processing other than to get them under 100kb)

with Wade. With ebay's zoom feature, I myself would be totally comfortable buying this coin if I was on the lookout for one. Looks like a nice old copper to me! All that person needed to do was make use of the cropping tool, and this thread wouldn't even exist I think I might agree with their grade too. Now the starting price... that's something to about.

I agree, there have been worse pics. At least you can do something with these to actually see the coin as opposed to the perpetually out of focus pictures that some people post. What I find entertaining is that two pictures clearly wouldn't do the job so the seller added six more that all pretty much look the same.

It was a no sale. I guess the photos didn't grab anyone.

So do you get the new photos of the old coin... or the bad photos of the old coin... or the old coin in the original bad photos... or all of the above if you're the winning bidder? No one seems to understand color balance when they post photos on ebay. You see lots of pink, blue and green coins listed.

Seems to be a "bad habit" around here... Picking on ebay sellers for seemingly any reason.

At least it's in focus. I've seen coins so blurry, why even put a picture?

If you know a little image processing - it's pretty easy to get an image and increase the size, lighten or darken it a touch and see what's hiding in the limited data that ebay and a mediocre photograph can give you. Here is a quick under 2 minute fix on the image we were speaking of in the original post. I must have at least an image around this size and it needs to be pretty well in focus to pull off this much of a difference. But here you go, and yes I like some bad shots that keep others away, because I can make an image show me what others can't see. no data was added, I did enlarge it slightly and made the obverse and reverse the same size and rotated them for comparison. What do you think of the shot now?

Quote: If you know a little image processing - it's pretty easy to get an image and increase the size Absolutely, 100% true. But why make it harder for a potential buyer? The seller should have done this...especially since he was asking $250.

The seller should do the simple things to improve the quality of their image to start with. Helps sell an item if it looks good. Quote: I think I'm envious of people with photo processing skill. That was my job for many years, so I had to learn it, that or get fired! Not such a bad day, considering I spent my time editing and processing a quite attractive music star as a photographer on staff with Atlantic records. Sure helped me with all aspects of image processing. A lot of friends tell me I am some Photoshop expert, but in reality I only know probably 10% or less of what it can do. There are some tricks to learn though; When needing to enlarge an image, specifically a jpg or other file that isn't a large or full resolution file only increase the image by 10%, do that over and over until it finally breaks up. The image will hold up better than just trying to enlarge it all at once. Use curves not levels when trying to lighten an image. Every time you change the end points or black and white limits on a levels adjustment you are throwing away data. Another trick to either lighten or darken in Photoshop is to make a copy of the layer and change the top layer to either screen or multiply in the layer pallet pop-up (where it would normally list "NORMAL" then adjust the opacity of the top layer until you get the look you want. Use unsharp mask for for sharpening an image, but keep the levels low under 75% and the radius I usually stay at is .8 to 1.2 add some threshold to see if that helps keep areas from looking too grainy, then go to the pull down menu "EDIT" and select fade unsharp mask, to adjust how much to actually apply. That's all I did for the most part, ( beyond rotating and adding them together into a single file) and it took less than 2 minutes from downloading them to my desktop, editing them, and then, uploading them to my photobucket account.

A smart seller will learn to make an attractive presentation. I'm making progress. A smart buyer will learn how to uncover the details of an unattractive presentation. New world for me.

I'd prefer they didn't. More success for me.

If you can't afford Photoshop, I use GIMP (because it's free).
