I find silver below spot quite often. However, what I find is coins in the junk box that got missed by others. Occasionally I find something privately. I've got a few silver coins from circulation (I think 3?). I got a good deal on ebay one time that had a bunch of foreign silver (around 40 oz.) that was a little under spot, I assume because people didn't know most the coins were silver. Add it all together it is not that much. It all depends on how much time you want to spend. I came to the conclusion that I don't want to spend all my free time trying to save a little bit of money and constantly deal hunting. So I am willing to spend some extra over spot for my own free time.

Also, FWIW, many gold/silver buyers won't touch less than 0.900 silver or 14kt gold because they get hit with additional fees from the refiner. Or even 18kt white gold. Some will, but that's something else you need to factor into your quest.

Im tracking ebay now, and it seems like when silver is put up for less than spot, there is a hidden reserve. On several items so far, I've see them reposted when the winning bid was below spot. It is possible they had two of the same item, but the picture is identical too.

Even tho I've found thousands of silvers at face value over the last few years, I've bought a lot also, and can't remember ever buying below spot, even from unknowing individuals, in which I always paid spot or more.

I used to comb ebay for cheap poorly listed bullion items (foreign coins, rings, etc). Problem is it's just not worth the time in most cases. The amount of time spent isn't worth the savings in my opinion.

Im going to check Walmart this week. Without my scale, some of their 14k earrings might be under spot.

Walmart was a bust, I weight about five items, most of them were hollow. It came out to around 80/gram on 14k, worse than a regular jeweler.

A while ago I bought a gold ring on ebay that was hollow (could'nt tell by the horrible picture), was my first experience with hollow jewelry. Learned my lesson :)

Add scrap jewelry. Yeah, it seems to be a lot about research. There's very little 24k or .999 available at spot, but at 14k and 10k, it increases a lot. I found a few places under spot actually.

I regularly buy silver for below spot on ebay. Bid 5% below spot and win a few times each week, sometimes get no competition and get 20 to 50% below spot. But most of it is junk .500 and .925 silver coins.
I figure that if silver goes over $100 then $2/ounce extra refining costs will be insignificant compared to the extra 10% or so of silver that I end up with compared to paying spot for .999 (and that is if you could pick up .999 for spot, so in reality I have at least 15% more).
By this method I have picked up over 1000 ounces (ASW) using about 20,000 bids and 1000 wins in under 3 years. Lots of little wins adds up (and yes I include postage costs when I bid).

I buy below spot, or at spot. Even when I buy ASEs. I even bought a one ounce round below spot, but immediately sold it on ebay for double. Lets just say it had a less than wholesome depiction of a woman. Aaaaaaand my wife was wanting it gone fast. That was the plan all along.

Anyway, I'll give my secrets if FadeToBlack gives out information that leads to me getting weekly ike bags :P

I stopped buying silver at spot or below as it is not appreciates with the time ... God only know how long will it take for silver/gold to take off. That's why I play only with semi-numiz/numiz. Premiums are high ... returns are much better even in short term.
Cost average is $3/oz
