I'm really not that good at grading Peace dollars, but I'm not that bad. I had this at EF/ low AU. Wow.

I was at AU-55. I can see quite a bit of luster, but would not have thought MS.

Good example of buy the coin not the holder and it's important to let collectors know that far better examples are available for MS63 money. A piece like that one is likely worth AU50 money in today's market because lustrous and attractive 1921 Peace dollars are out there. Don't buy pieces with carbon spots or very poor strikes, look for luster and eye appeal at a reasoanable price.

Ahem.. I'm fortunate to have collected several examples
of these over the years ranging from brilliantly lustrous
excellent strikes to soft strikes like this one.

This is one of my favorites and will never part with her.

Just wanted to show an example of the wide variety of strikes
available on these 1921 dollars and grade does not always
apply to bright white lustrous well-struck coins.

I believe I love this coin. It personifies why they abandoned the High Relief design.

This is a shining example of why I dislike trying to grade raw Peace dollars.

Boy, I was way out there with my grade. That is one coin I would not pay MS63 prices for.

Agreed, dogs are available at a given grade for all series and toned vs. brilliant is not that large a factor in technical grading. I've owned thousands of Peace dollars over the years and several of them were 1921s. My point is to let collectors know they shouldn't pay MS money (which is significant) for sub-par pieces that a TPG put in an MS holder. Here's a PCGS MS61 that is worth full MS61 money.

Eye appeal is the major factor for me to purchase anything. Don't get hung up on the numbers on the slabs. There's more to it.
