Nice pics, Canadian-Banknotes! Normally, I use my Nikon Coolpix L610 for coin pics, but after seeing this, I was inspired to try my iPad Mini Retina with a loupe in front of the lens. It worked. Could use some post processing (much too light), but here is a quick pic of a coin that I had laying around on the coffee table. A little bit of experimenting with lighting would be good. I think I'll stick with the Nikon, but I am amazed at the shots that these new devices can provide The iPad and loupe were hand held for this shot ...

If your phone is like most of them, the camera is not centered. You can use that to your advantage and make a steadying aid out of a block of wood. Cut a 2x4 in half and glue it together to make a 4x4, then cut off different lengths to properly position the cameraphone for different coins, You can do this with a hand saw if you are skilled, but an electric circular saw or chop saw makes it much neater. That gives you about a 3.5" square surface to rest the non-camera side on.
If you are lucky, the phone book(s) they insist on sending you can also serve.

Everybody has a harder time with Morgan reverses than obverses, regardless of camera.

I was going to try and get the lighting on the wing tips, but wasn't able to with the "iPhone Set-Up" I have.
