Yes, counterfeit. These are heavily counterfeited in China.

I strongly doubt that it is even partially silver. Chinese counterfeits were made with base metal; in fact, most of them are made out with base metal, containing no silver at all. Why bother including any silver in it when you can still trick buyers and make profit when you make them out with no silver at all? If they contain silver, the counterfeiters will spend more money on making a single fake and it's not worth that loss.

It is a fantasy coin. The mint did not make any 1843-S mint dollars. It is worth nothing to a knowledgeable, informed, honest collector other than as an example to place in a counterfeit/replica/fantasy collection.
Unfortunately, new collectors get burned by these things every day.
The Chinese counterfeit "problem" is getting to the point that it is ridiculous. Factor in the uninformed, novice collector, along with some crooked fly-by-night Sellers on the internet, and you instantly have a market for this counterfeit/replica/fantasy crap. If people wouldn't buy it they wouldn't be selling it!

They're worth, as counterfeits, only a few dollars apiece.
I do collect that kind of counterfeit, but I already have a *lot* of them. :-)
Regardless, you could always donate them to The Black Cabinet (link below). At least that way they won't re-enter circulation and you'll get credit if it's a new variety.
