I will never auction a coin again on ebay I'll buy them but will only sell fixed price. I have yet to not make money selling fixed. Sure sometimes you have to list it 10 times till it sells but eventually they sell. I almost had my friend bid $70 just to pay the extra $7.00 and keep it.

I am not sure where it say that USPS insurance doesn't cover numismatic coin. Under their claims sections they say that insurance will pay "For stamps and coins of philatelic or numismatic value; the fair market value is determined by a recognized stamp or coin dealer or current coin and stamp collectors' newsletters and trade papers. The date of the fair market value determination must be current and prior to the mailing date." http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/609.htm#1098417Though numismatic coins are covered, it could take a few appeals to get an acceptable payment on your claim like in this thread: https://goccf.com/t/143233On the coin, I think it grades around VF-35 to EF-40.

It says bullion and currency is limited to $15 though. I guess I missed the collectible subsection.

You shot yourself in the foot with a high bid start. People see when it's first listed and they cruised right on by.

I certainly would not sell a high priced coin on ebay without insurance. If USPS loses it like they have done with me in the past, you will be out the money and the coin. I never heard that coins can't be insured, if they weren't I don't see how people sell high priced coins online at all. I will have to look at the fine print or talk to the shipping carriers. I use UPS for anything over a certain amount and they automatically come with $100 worth of insurance. I have had package show up a month later mangled and the post office just lost a walker I just sold on ebay.

I thought this bid would end up this way. High bid starting prices usually only go for the starting bid unless they are highly desired coins. If you start it at a high bid, expect only one or two bids. I would have listed it at slight discount of list price for a buy it now with a 30% lower starting bid. You can't blame ebay or the buyers for decisions you made. There is a lot of information out there to help you with your auctions from more experienced eBayers.

I think maybe the fact that you bought it from a guy selling it for $60 and the fact that it sold for $61 means maybe it's actually worth $60. Looking at recent completed auctions it's anywhere from $50-90 and most of those are in TPG holders.

That coin lists at $60 at Numismedia.com in VF condition. Even if it graded a little higher, most eBayers are looking for a discount on that. If it went a little higher; fees, shipping, and insurance would cancel any profit.

To durable what meant was I will sell fixed price. I have great success. Yes I've broken even on a few to change inventory but never lost. If I put that coin for $125.00 it might take a month or two to sell but they sell eventually. If you check some of my posts I couldn't believe people were buying 1922 weak d,s so as an experiment I bought that had a strong date and almost no d. I paid $17.00 with shipping started at $200 dropped to $150 and sold for $100. This paid for a months of my cancer pain meds so it may be small potatoes to some but part for money but it's also fun. Mikey07nj is my ebay membership go see what I bought and sold you will see sometimes I male $100 to $150. Some times I break even but it's fun and now that insurance pays for all my meds and I'm working again. Yes I have in unable cancer and maybe 2 years but I work 55 hours a week. You never know maybe they come up with something. My 13 year old niece do this together and when we make profits now we add to her collection. Her faverrite 3 cent silvers she can't believe that those little guys survived in people's pockets with silver dollars and halves large cents and she says how affordable they are with low mintages. She says those and commems are the sleepers for he generation because by the time she 30 their going to turn out better than any other investment. Smart girl.I get to keep some. I'm reposting a pic on my 2887 DDO that I paid $331 for. I'm sending it out because it holds up to slabs in the ms 62 pcgs holders actually mine has aii four diamonds. I have it listed for $1500.00 and had many inquires as well as offers over $800 for it. Just learning my galaxy s 4 but check this new pic when I post better than my $300 camera.

All I've gotta say to this whole thread is this;
You make money when you buy the coin, not when you sell it. In other words, if you wanted to flip, you simply overpaid.
EDIT: Any time I've sold a coin, I've done 99c auctions. I've lost money on maybe two coins out of a few hundred.

I am young (33) but have been battling an unknown disease for almost a year now that has been dibilitating at times, likely neurological in origin....I have been on all kinds of medication and have had inconsistent diagnosis's from Dr.s around here(from various autoimmune diagnosis to brain parasites, etc..), and am going to take a trip to the MAYO clinic in Minnesota next month to hopefully get a real answer. It has been quite frightening. Anyways, sorry to get off topic...just wanted to relate with a forum member who is suffering.
