Quote:I bought coins on ebay on July 18 and as of today the last update on tracking was on July 22. It's as if they lost it between point A and point B. It was supposed to have been delivered by the 24th. You will have an easy refund as the tracking will show they never arrived, hope you get them though

A month ago I sent a coin to a U.S. address with ebay USPS tracking. It disappeared from their tracking system for a week only to suddenly reappear and be delivered the next day. There's a good chance it will show up. It's just somewhere is postal purgatory.

Am assuming you have tracking. Yes, I have also had USPS First Class disappear off of radar for almost a week, then appear. I think you're still ok, but I know it's frustrating.

Yes, it is frustrating since the last coin I sent to Northern California near the Bay Area, disappeared, then appeared in Reno before eventually being delivered. Maybe it will show up, if not I will definitely have to adjust and check out local selling options and only selling coins on ebay worthy of insurance. Their answer for everything is pay more for shipping. It is like telling your customers if you want us to do our jobs pay us more.

I've sold 3 or 4 coins and the post office lost them, and had to refund the buyers, I was out of the coins and the postage cost.

They don't lose coins you insure I hear. So seems the only option is sell coins that are cheap and put a stamp on them or sell them expensive with insurance and nothing in between. I love how they tell you to use priority mail when you lose coins or buy insurance. Pay more or will lose your stuff. Not worth it to use the $2 shipping method with tracking, they lose them all the time and don't care so just throw a stamp on it.

Recently, I had one package being sent to me with tracking from the dealer. It was at my regional sorting office for a few days. It got scanned as sorted and departed a few times, but it eventually arrived. In all the orders I have placed, USPS has only lost one order, but the vendor gave me a refund.

Happened to me several times at Hazelwood Mo. They are awful. Package scanned in then nothing for two weeks then shows up and gets delivered. Two were gone for a month then showed up. Not sure where they could be for a month but they all eventually arrived. Unfortunatly the buyer doesn't want to wait a month most of the time so a refund has to be made. Had one scanned in then scanned out then back in again then gone for a week then delivered.

If you use the label printing features at ebay, stamps.com or USPS.com (etc) to print your labels and use decent size bubble mailers (6x9 minimum), your stuff has a better chance of not falling off the radar. Hand written labels with DC stick-ons are an invitation to easily get misrouted. Most 1st Class pkgs (13 ounces and under) and Priority pkgs are only scanned at acceptance, departure, arrival at the destination post office and delivery. They are rarely scanned during transit unless there is a delivery exception involving a misrouting or accident. I usually ship between 20 and 35 pkgs every week. Even taking all the precautions, I still have one or two a year that go AWOL. Longest one was one week. I can live with that.

I just talked to USPS and had the package investigated. They said it wasn't the packaging or the label since I sent many coins the same way. I just don't want to deal with it any longer so ended all my auctions using the first class package shipping option.

There is an option. I use UPS for coins over a certain amount. I can just combine the coins I would ship using 1st class package. If something happens with first class package, the post office will do nothing. If you have $5000 worth of insurance, they won't lose it. UPS comes with $100 worth of insurance automatically so there is some liability with every package you don't have to pay extra for. It ticks me off that the post office wrecked building my feedback that I worked for. I will just get them back, I will not use first class package and explore other options.

I ship USPS several times a week, and just so everyone knows every 1st class package (other than letters) will have a tracking number already. If you look on your receipt from the post office, it is right on it. Do not pay extra for tracking, it's a scam by the Post Office. I had to tell the Postal workers at my local branch that those numbers on the receipt are tracking numbers and they didn't believe me. Trust me, they do work and you can track them right on their website. Also of note if you ship anything Priority mail, you automatically get $50 of insurance on your item as long as you pack it properly. Brian

I personally would use UPS instead of USPSfor more expensive coins and they automatically come with $100 in insurance.
How much is priority mail though? I have used priority mail before to ship bulk v-nickels but it is good to know they were automatically insured. They lose it, they have to pay for it in that case. I think the main issue is first class package. I have gotten packages a few weeks later all mangled. Priority mail small padded envelope is $5.95. If you're coin sold for $10, you need to charge $6 shipping. I bring my packages to the post office and they accept it. If there was a foreseen problem, wouldn't they let me know? I can print another label and start again. If they lose my package, it will cost them more in shipping charges they will lose. I can simply create a lot of $10 coins till they equal $100 and shipping them UPS. Another option is go to my local coin show. I have took coins I bought there and they offered me what I paid for them.
