Yeah this one will be a late night for sure! I'm hoping that a couple of my bids at the end of this auction hold... just for that reason that everyone has already fallen asleep...
I think the yanky strong dollar may have an influence to who's buying and how much they're willing to pay really...
All I know is I've ditched the coffee for rum... my internet connection seems screwed as my "live bids" with this platform don't even happen... there's a delay on the start of every new lot.... so I have just gone back to the lots I like.. prebid my personal max and let the chips fall....
Still in absolute awe with what some of the items are going for... just in awe.... and also wondering if anyone's leaving anything for tomorrow.... geeze!

Many of the lots are still selling on the floor..and some of our US friends did come up to be part of this .....and are now gobbling them up..
Quite the show..$$!$$..as we expected..
That many gems has to pull many of the stars out ..and shake us all up a bit..

Seems to me like people really want their coins. I tried bidding with a trend price in mind considering the 21% premium and 13 (tax). I even pushed higher than that and people were just blowing bids by me like it was nothing. Oh well....
Glad to have been a part of it even if I didn't come up with anything :)

Sure was a fun auction! Lots of old coin pals and it sure was packed. Got back to my hotel well after 4 am. I will say one thing it was go big or go home . The prices may seem on the high side, but this was quality material new to the coin market. I am pleased to say I was a part of it and was glad to get what I did!

Pacific: I'll be there around 1 or 2. You can catch me in the pub visiting with Rob Turner (we were in the service together) and I'll have on red/orange flannel.

I must have fallen asleep at my computer! I vaguely remember the Large cents ending...
Absolutely wild to watch, I can only imagine what it was like in person!
Unfortunately, only ended up winning two lots...

Quite a few of the large cents went for 50% of trends.
Granted, a few of the very top grades went high as this is expected in any type of market.
US went high for many reasons....1)US buyers got an edge because of the dollar.2) stronger coin market in the US. 3) great selection of highly sought after type material4) some items undergraded and 5) some of the coins were 'crack-out' candidates waiting for a major score from the buyer

I enjoyed what I could watch and was thoroughly impressed by most of the prices - even if it meant I was constantly outbid. Being an hour or more later for me than most of you, I had to go to bed long before it was completed though.

I fell asleep and unfortunately paid the price for that by losing out on a few of the coins that were on my want list by only a few hundred but did end up with getting a few of my bids so overall pleased with that but it was like trying to climb a mountain coated in Vaseline with the way the bids were flying off the wall. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out or maybe a better term to use is payout in the long term.

I only managed 1 stinking lot.. and none of it was the higher grade pennies... wanted to at least have one thing with the Landon pedigre... I guess in the months to come I may find something on ebay...doah!

I forgot to add one more reason why the US prices were as strong as they were...... 6) with the US coins, there was only one (1) of the highest graded ever at the auction, whereas with the Canadian large cents there was a truckload of highest graded to choose from(lol).

Now that I am up and rethinking what went on last night. Live it was great to be there! The good news is that this sale proves the need for fresh material to fuel the hobby. Overall I am quite pleased with the lots that I bought ( even got a couple of the US lots I wanted!). Just as I thought the market is going to carry on and this might be just a little kick that it needs. There certainly was a buzz in that room last. My take this can only be good for the hobby and the business side as well. Off to view part 2 and 3 coins . For the first time in awhile , with the Landon sale and what I ended up with out of London, I am pumped!

getting out bid was stressing, but I can't deny the excitement I felt when seeing some coins go for big was a new experience for me. That MS67 large cent ( I believe 1915) for nearly $10,000 between those two buyer was fun to watch.

IMO, there is a strong sense of buyer fatigue for most Canadian coins. Some high-end exceptions of course. That coupled with the recent drop in oil prices/Canadian economic slowdown is a recipe for lower prices. It's a great time to be a buyer of Canadian coins :)

It is also a good time for a U.S. citizen to be a buyer of Canadian coins. A couple of years ago one would have paid $1600 U.S. or CAD for a decent quality 1948 silver dollar. Today the book price is still $1600 CAD but the person with U.S. dollars gets a 20% discount. I have been watching some higher end graded ($400+)eBay coin items over the last two years and although the selling prices were relatively flat for many months, I have noticed selling prices up an average of 5% in the last two months. I imagine most are U.S. bidders who are winning.
