You might want to fix that link - try logging out of your PCGS account, and then pasting in the link from the set registries. It is trying to go through _your_ set registry...

I like brown coins myself, mainly because nobody monkeys with a red coin to make it brown! That and they are more affordable. I also enjoy wood grain toning.
By the way that MS66 Small Cent is a real beauty!

I love both red and brown cents. I read in one book about a coin dr. that turned brown cents back to red... in the same book the author went on to say that most red cents had been doctored... (a U.S. book and perhaps a bit of an over exaggeration) but the point has been made that nobody ever works a red cent to turn brown.
On another note.. that cent of yours SPP is fantastic... some day I`d love to pick your brain to see how you up grade your coins and find such beautiful treasures!

Both of your 1c's look soo nice . Mine 1c is nothing compared to yours, my 64 that is starting to grow on me. I just got it from a coin roll.  not the nicest picture. Edited by xd99xd

I prefer red over brown any day of the week. That's not to say I always get it my way.

DEVLEC or bosox, does a lacquered cent still retain the original colour or otherwise how is the lacquer recognizable? I have a certain one, as I recall it's a small cent from the 20s, that's a sort of deep auburn colour, noticeably different from the varied brownish tones of the others.

But you've also mentioned that PCGS now guarantees that their holders will let the red cents go RB and then Brown with time. ..as has been showing up in the PCGS holders.
We've been now told that most of the Landon gem cents looked like they were struck yesterday.."so perfect and yellow bright".. and that's because of some "special wrapping paper". So the wrappings gone now..
Will they now slowly go red and then RB in the future..?
A dry climate helps keep them brighter for a longer time...but I would expect that the oxygen will slowly do it's job in time..

Here are 2 examples of lacquered cents..You usually can see a shine of a clear coating over the whole surface. It seems to have otherwise keep the copper quite bright over the years..   |

Thanks for the pic, just as described - a perfect cent with the shiny appearance of lacquer. Definitely not auburn coloured!

All red copper will go brown over time. We are just discussing how much time, which is directly tied to the environment in which they are stored. Properly stored (low humidity, no chemical influences) they can stay red for generations.

DEVLEC, there are plenty of MS-62 large cents out there that are nearly mark free that ICCS held to a 62 grade because of a lack of red in the past. Just another candidate to send to PCGS and flip for a profit these days.
