Those ground zero coins are "cool" (in a historical way). I'm going to ad one of those to my "To Buy" list!

Quote: cascade, is that gold eagle #1 of 150 made? There were 48,047 2001 bullion half eagles minted in 2001. As to the 1 of 150 marketing designation I am banking on the vault that is was recovered from only had 150 2001 dated gold 1/2 eagles in it.

Quote: cascade, is that gold eagle #1 of 150 made? No it was just one of a group of 150 that was submitted. When they sold out they submitted another group, and then another and so on. Just a marketing gimmick. Another part of the "scam" was that every piece says 1 of 150, or whatever number they submitted, and people will sometimes try to sell them as the #1 coin.

Conder201, like ALWAYS, is correct. These coins were in the COMEX vaults under tower 7 when 1 & 2 fell. They were then given back to their owners who sent them to collectors universe in batches. So this coin was sent in with 150 $10 gold eagles and 150 ASE's and the owner got 1 of 150 put on all 300 coins. Conder is again correct on some dealers and resellers then proping them up as the first of 150 but I knew this and the auctioneer did not when I bought it so the price wasn't hyperinflated for me but yes, be carefull and research these out if ypu want to buy one!

I personally hate this politically correct medal: http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs...ationalMedalIMO it is/was a slap in the face to the people forced to endure unspeakable loss in their lives. Invoking a warm, fuzzy feeling with a oin design is a dishonorable downplaying of the tragic loss of lives. Personally I appreciate the Pearl Harbor mindset for a heinous attack on innocent US citizens. Google "Pearl Harbor Memorial coins" and look at images. These Pearl Harbor Memorials commemorate the victims by making sure people know the event was from a senseless, criminal act of war on US innocents. When we gloss these horrors over, it makes it much easier to forget the reality and to try our best to remain vigil against such acts. The warm fuzzy feeling is not what is needed to make sure we don't forget the horrors and senseless loss of life.

Quote:Here's a good read for you guys on the wtc vaults with storage estimates and possible theft. (Nothing to do with Slabbing these though) http://911research.wtc7.net/wtc/evidence/gold.html That reads like another Fort Knox there is no gold (which there probably isn't any left) and 9/11 was used as a cover to jack the gold and silver like the current paper precious metals market. Wasn't there a Die Hard movie like this Ok, back on topic. At least the US Mint 9/11 medal is .999 and not 90%.

Interesting PCGS holder - so please humour this uninformed Canadian - why is there no grade on the coin?

Collector's Universe slabbed coins have no numerical grade PCGS slabbed coins have a numerical grade. How many millions have been made from the sale of these coins, which before that tragic day, were bullion.

It's a challenge coin. I wonder if PCGS would grade it?
