It's not rare. It's going for $20 but for some reason, I can't find it online at any Canadian coin shop. You're right though, I can wait. If the guy is so reluctant to actually sell something, too bad for him.

What is the exact penny you want.. perhaps if you put it up here.. or mention it as a want list on this forum... you could find someone here who has one they're willing to sell.

Tom,

I would be willing to purchase the coin. Relist the coin for sale on ebay for the same price and ship the coin to China if you are willing pick up shipping. Drop me an email if you are interested. I have never shipped anything to China, so it would be a first for me.

Could be because you live in China? I don't know if you can block emails from china users, but I am pretty sure you can block bidders from china.

I do know you can exclude listings from china, so I'm thinking your location might have something to do with it?

no this is common for US sellers, who are on the ignorant side of the scale, who do not want the added frustration of international shipping. in this day and age, Canada - USA should be almost considered domestic but it is not.

@ ace_ftw

You would think so, its unbelievable what the price difference in shipping can be. I sold a few post cards to someone in Canada and it would have cost me $25 dollars to ship it to them! So I mailed them separately so they wouldn't qualify as a package.

Figures. I rail against a guy who blocks my communication attempts and I have my own email turned off on this forum. Mine is on now (an oversight) and perhaps his was too but I didn't even know you could turn messages off on ebay. How do you expect to sell something without having the option of talking?

It doesn't help that you get worked up for not able to contact a seller like him / her. A lot of sellers were probably burnt out from previous negative experience from shipping overseas. I have shipped to China previously and the buyer claimed that he didn't receive it. And this is the only mail that has gone missing out of the 500+ mail that I have sent all around the world. Would I send something to China again? Not by regular mail for sure.

Again it's their choice. You cannot force them to mail something to countries they are not comfortable with.

There is nothing "ignorant" about it. This is common because there is no way to accurately track an package once it leaves the US. I stopped shipping anywhere but to U.S Residents after a fellow dealer had a package "Lost" that was shipped out of the country that he paid extra for tracking and insurance. The buyer claimed he didn't get it. The post office could not show delivery because it was out of country, and ebay sided with the buyer, refunded his money, and the seller was left to file a claim with the USPS for a considerable amount of money. Way too much of a hassle to ship out of the US for the average seller.

So, someone you know had one package lost while being sent to another country and that was enough to cut off a large portion of your potential sales? I used to sell on ebay all the time about 15 years ago and I had all kinds of strange things happen when dealing with American buyers. One person once sent me a $5 bill in an $8 registered letter. I got numerous money orders from the US that said in big letters that they were for domestic use only. I had US sellers stiff me. US buyers claiming the package was damaged. Numerous buyers confused about how to send a letter to Canada for payment. I still sold to anyone and anywhere. Why would I want to restrict my potential markets? What I find frustrating is seeing items that the seller won't ship to Canada yet go unsold. I have messaged many sellers to see if they would ship to Canada and they say no, and their auction ends with no bid.

Anyway, I am not "worked up" over it. Was just surprised at the rudeness of not even accepting messages from us obviously crooked foreigners. You know, because there was one problem with shipping so everyone overseas is a crook. I have been on ebay since 1998 and am so tired with dealing with this issue. I rarely bother with ebay anymore because of this, which I guess is what many sellers on ebay want.

I never said anyone was "crooked" or that everyone overseas is a crook, I merely stated my reason for not shipping overseas. I'm sorry if you do not agree with it. It is my business and I will run it as I see fit. Let's use another example, I do not deal in replica coins or copies. This is just my choice, I know that other dealers do and I'm fine with that. Should someone get upset because they want to buy one from me and I choose not to sell them? I'm am sorry you are having trouble finding the coin and I know your frustrated but blaming someone for their chosen business practice seems petty.

Well, thanks to Slider23 for trying to get this coin for me. It went for a bit more than what I thought it would go for. I am not too worried because it will show up again and I have some internal satisfaction to think that if this seller had allowed Canadians to bid on a Canadian coin (radical idea, I know), it would have gone for higher than what he got for it. Thanks again.

I just finished reading this discussion and chose to respond as a neutral party (kind of like Switzerland at the UN) regarding mail/package tracking.

My story below:

I couple of years back, I purchased a set of 5 Canadian coins from a nice old chap in Australia, who had relatives here in Canada. He sent me a ebay message that Australia's "Pack and Track International Mail" system does not track outside of Australia, so he can not verify delivery, after it is successfully enters Canada. I replied to him that the last 2 characters in the tracking code represents your country of origin, that once it enters Canada, I can enter the Australian tracking code into Canada Post's mail/package tracking system and track it from there. The seller did not know that, and in the end I received my package, watching it from Australia's Post tracking website and switching to Canada's Post tracking website after the package entered Canada. I gave the seller a positive review.

I have purchased from the USA and the UK with their tracking codes and once it enters Canada, switch to the Canada Post tracking public website. This is when I was a buyer, but I assume this works as a seller too, so vice a versa. Someone with better knowledge than me about World Postal Mail tracking systems, can confirm that tracking codes for USA, Canada, UK, NZ, and other countries, have the last 2 characters in the tracking code as the country of origin and how their tracking codes are represented. (Edited here for clarity)

Not all countries have a tracking system or a country has a reputation for corruption. But it still that seller's choice whether to be local to one's country's customers or go after international customers. Yes it still causes me frustration when I can not bid on a great coin because a seller will not ship to Canada with tracking.

(Edited here, again for clarity)
Legal Disclaimer: The story above does not represent, in anyway, ebay's Global Shipping Program which I dislike intensely, but put up with.
