Low AU, some light notable wear on the high points. Pretty color!

AU-50. Toning does look unusual - could well be a details coin.

I would guess the toning is a result of how it was previously stored before grading as well as the slab. These older slabs are known for toning the coins they hold.

I think it's an AU-50 then and now. The first photos suggest an original coin with attractive but unspectacular toning. The second photo set makes the coin look too glossy, as in improperly cleaned. Hopefully the first set is more true-to-life.

After the second set of photos I'm not so sure, EF40? Don't think PCGS would go much over EF45 today.

ANACS graded it.....EF 45 back then.

What do you think of this grade? How do you think PCGS or NGC would grade it now?

If this was my coin, I would send into PCGS for a crossover and if the coin does cross, then, onto CAC for a bean.

The color of this one (and the fact it's a key date) I'd not want it out of a holder only to get it in another holder at a lower grade. A lot of collectors (me included) like these small white ANACS holders. They take up so much less space in storage, but over time, I have noticed some of my Morgans that had toning on them, darken a lot over decades, so store it right if you keep it. Low humidity, in the dark, and keep it cool. This coin dipped out, would look pretty dull I'd think, as it stands now, I like it a lot, and I'm not a big an of toned circulated coins, this one though is special, that toning hides a lot of the imperfections and marks from becoming too distracting, which they would if it didn't have the golden patina over the whole coin.
