Cascade,

You may be correct, but the OP coin has an excuse for everything that is off. Hit on neck. Hit on the bottom of 9 to make the 3 appear raised, hit on the mint mark S, to hide any alterations. I agree send in the coin in for grading.

Mint mark looks funky. Date looks okay.

Surprised no one mentioned the two large pits on the reverse between the left star and ONE.

My opinion -- and it's only that -- is that the coin is genuine.

Put the coin in acetone. If the mintmark is glued on, it will come right off.

Thanks for the thoughts on this one.
It will be submitted to a third party grading service and I will update this thread once I know for sure.

Also it has already had an acetone bath.

Thanks and considering I know it is at least silver and my cost in it is just above the silver melt value, either way I am fine with it.
But I am hopeful though :)

I am sure it is a really good feeling knowing it is genuine

I know one like that would look good filling the empty spot
in my Dansco.

What did you pay for the coin? It is damaged and I don't know what condition it is in which makes all the difference. If you got it for small money then you got a bargain, regardless, I think. Did you brown your shorts when you saw this coin at an estate sale? You must have been the first guy through the door. You resurrect my faith in yard sales and estate sales.

Paid about $13.00 for the coin (there were about fifty Silver dollars in the lot and that was my average into each)

Congrats! Fantastic find. You could always say you paid $650 and got 49 Morgans for free!
