$5.00-$10.00 maybe ? Prices for error coins are all over the place but I wouldn't be surprised to see this sell for over $10. I would be shocked to see it sell for $40. My best guess would be $10-$15 because the misalignment is substantial. |

Yes, nice coin. Something tells me as you learned about this error, you will learn of others, and varieties. Your one find in a box ratio will improve drastically.

Is there a circular scratch starting above the nose, running through the chin , and across the collar? It looks like it might be a scar from a counting/rolling machine but I cannot quite tell from the photo.

I could see that happening. Both dies shift in different directions. Not that I've ever seen one, but I think it possible.

Yes, it is possible to have dual die misalignment although it is not a common occurrence. I am not quite familiar with how dies are aligned on the newer Schuler horizontal presses but the position of the anvil die on a vertical press is fairly restricted so it cannot create as large of an offset as a misalignment of the hammer die.

If it were off center on both sides it would be an "Off Center." The Hammer die is adjustable, the anvil die is not. So when the two are not aligned correctly we have a MAD coin. (only one side affected)  Something that tells me is if it is a collectable one or not is this: The reverse will be weak opposite the most misaligned area. Note the example above that I posted with Cole's coin. I'm not seeing that weakness on the reverse of the OP's coin. So it is a close to collectable, but not a premium coin to me. Edited by coop
