it does appear that maybe there was a wire on the die during the strike

I'm thinking it would have to be a very tiny gauge wire according to your first photo, without hi-mag zoom . Could very well be a doozy of a scratch .

Not a scratch, in my opinion.

Struck through a wire, or some foreign object, I'm pretty sure. Nice find!

When is a scratched coin worth more than a coin without the scratch? When it is really a struck through wire mint error.

Thanks for the opinions. I have seen a lot of struck though grease coins and know they are fairly common, but this is my 1st one that was struck through a foreign object. How common is this? Pic of entire line. Look like maybe it looped up top.

Common enough that I haven't found one in my three years of collecting. Certainly worth more than a penny

It may be more common than we think just not many people catching it or knowing what they are actually seeing especially in struck through fibers being pretty small, good eye and nice find!

I see if more often on proof coins. (probably because my eyes pick up even slight imperfections)

Thanks again guys! Definitely gonna keep this one. I found it looking through some change that had been piling up in my tray. Quote: When is a scratched coin worth more than a coin without the scratch? When it is really a struck through wire mint error. While there aren't too many of these for sale on the bay, way more Struck Through Grease, they do seem to command a premium. The prices range from a couple of bucks to over $10(in sold section) Since this one is in the field and on the devices and the coin is in descent shape, would this one be on the higher end of this?

When I find them, I just put them back into the roll of tubed proof coins. I don't think they would bring that much of a premium. I try to buy the proof nickels with the mint cello on them. Often the cello tones them a bluish color. I set these aside in 2X2's Some years have more of them in the cello. (early 1960's proof coins)
