The 1848 has eye appeal ..
The reverse scratches will hurt the resell price

Even quicker maths says that I got the whole lot for $56, kept the 1838, and sold the remaining six for a total of $98 before fees. Basically I got a free large cent and $42.

Am guessing you sold the remaining 6 as a lot to keep shipping low.

Fun read. I love taking gambles on ebay. If you use common sense and some knowledge you can get some great buys.

Yes I sold them all individually. I charged 50¢ shipping on each to cover a stamped envelope.

I like your technique. I don't usually sell stuff but this seems like a decent way to get some cheap or even free coins. much better than paying my own money. heck I was thinking that paying $10 for the coin might not have been too bad of a deal at first when it turns out you got paid $42 and the coin free

Buying coins in lots is definitely a profitable venture for me. I have made several hundred dollars and kept many coins in the past year by using this method.
