That sounds awful. I will frequently put something somewhere and forget where I left it, but never with something that valuable.

Yea. There was some commotion when I was putting the coin away so I forgot that it was no longer in the 2x2. I was so relieved when I remembered where it was!

I can't remember what we lost but I do remember my husband and I looking through the trash for it -- whatever it was -- decades ago. I suppose everybody misplaces something at some point in their life.
Glad it was just a case of forgetting where you put it.

On 9/26/16 in this thread we talked about me getting my coin graded. I said that I'd never send it out in the mail and that perhaps there will be a coin grader at my local coin show in 2017. Well that coin show is this Sunday on May 7th. The website http://www.pawcatuckvalleycoinclub....hp/seminars/ lists that there will be an ANACS Coin Grading Service Booth there. Would anyone know from experience if this means that they will actually be grading coins there? Also, I see that PCGS and NGS are the preferred grading companies. Is there any reason I should absolutely not have it done by ANACS if they are indeed grading there? Thank you!

Well a handful of people put it in the XF45 to AU50 range :/ including the ANACS guy.

Oh. The grade isn't official, this was just the consensus among a handful of dealers and an ANACS representative. I was hoping for AU 50+ based on the opinions I got on the forum here. I guess the pictures made it look a little better than in real life :( I would be happy if it graded at AU50. There was also a consensus not to clean the verdigris off of the back. The ANACS guy made me a little more comfortable with the process of sending the coin out, but it's still scary to me. I don't want to lose something that my step dad found a half a century ago!
