I haven't paid because I knew that something was wrong with that banknote. I just wanted to make sure ;-) thanks for all your answers.

The style of the digits in the serial number is off -- too wide, should be narrower. And the lack of detail in the portrait's forehead feels like a sign, too. Add to those the lack of color, and I'm pretty certain it's fake (without even seeing the back).

The series 1934A $500 bills printed didn't get past an "A" suffix for ANY districts. So any 1934A $500 with a "G" suffix for sure is bogus. Plus, the BEP used green ink for the seal and serial numbers. And, the portrait just doesn't look right. So many red flags on this note.

Here is a legitimate example;

When I was MUCH younger I watched Let's Make A Deal with Monty Hall as the host.

From time to time, one of the prizes would be a $500 bill. Those were probably genuine notes, unlike the one you bid on and won.

A photocopy of a real note would look better than this.

Treasury seal should be in Latin not English for this series.

The paper looks like one of those fake one-million dollar notes that companies send out as advertisements... was this auctioned off here in the US? I'm sure the Secret Service would like to know why somebody is auctioning off fake US currency...
