Hope they grade 65 for you! Would hate to see the old rattler cases destroyed for a new slab 64.

No, the old Rattlers don't go for a 30% premium. I paid 7% over bid for these, if I have the math right.

coin197, you did, in fact, score a great pair of Morgans at a great price, but yours is more the exception than the rule. In general, the PCGS slab premium order is Doily (highest) -> Rattler -> 2.0 "Security Collar" 4 post -> OGH. There are always exceptions, as you successfully discovered. This premium is less noticeable for the most common dates in old holders (1904/1901-1898/1883/1884/1885 New Orleans, 1880/1881/1882 San Fran, 1882/1885-89/1896-98/1900/1903/1904 Philly, 1882-1884 CC) and more noticeable on scarcer date/MM combinations, and especially noticeable on semi-keys and key dates.

I generally agree with Liberty Eagle and Paralyse...... PCGS grading( rattlers are a plus ) especially when compared to ANACS is the way to go. No doubt they are great specimens.

They look great in your photos. If that's how they really look, I am cautiously optimistic they will come back as 65s.

I am a fan of using ANACS over ...over priced .. PCGS.
But I agree with others about leaving them in the older PCGS holder.
Will they grade higher ? Not sure about the 1898. There are some hits/rubs on the front area of Liberty's face that would worry me. I see a better chance for the 1904 to get a better grade.
In my experience ANACS has been more strict on their grading.

I am with Paralyse about not cracking out common date Morgan's in rattler holders. You also lose the liquidity value of the rattler when it comes time to sell. Nice coins.

I would have kept them in the original rattler holders. There's really no great value upgrade for these coins, since there are literally tens of thousands of them in both 64 and 65 grades.

Trading a rattler holder for a yellow anacs holder? Hmm.

I think they are certain 65s and that 98-O could easily go 66.

Well, I am happy, because last time I had a ANACS MS 65 dollar, I sold it for $100. Looks like I stand to make about $50. Of course, I paid $35 for that other one raw.
