Thanks Jc very interesting read and very valuable knowledge. I read somewhere that the counterfeits hemming made are worth quite a high premium. Also I sent an email to Cuds on coins about a couple State Quarters and havent heard anything just wondering if they would be worth submitting here is the link http://goccf.com/t/284206

I wonder why he went through the trouble of making those counterfeits. I had no idea about these. Always more to learn about.

Coop are the proofs made of the same alloy mix as the business strikes during the war? The reason I ask is I read they put the large mm on the coins so they could take them back out of circulation after the war but if they put the large mm on the proofs surely they didn't expect to get those back as well .

" Red Book" mentions just 1942-P (Type 2) had a proof on the war time nickels. All the other years did not have proofs on the wartime nickels. The 1942-P (type 1) had a proof also. The Type one was less money than the type two.

thanks coop. I wonder why Red Book only lists the type 2 proof. Are the coins in the example yours or have you ever found any of them I know you told me a while back you only search proof nickels?

It lists the Type one proof also. But I was referring to the other years 1943-1945 does not show any proofs those years. So I'm thinking there none struck those other years. The PCGS site only mentions the 1942 Type one and two on it also. No other proof coins the 1943-1945 years.

I don't know nearly as much about the path a proof takes compared to a business strike but I wonder why the didn't make a proof those years . I also wonder about the alloy mix for the 42 type 2 proof. Do you know if it was struck using the wartime alloy mix or they used the regular nickel alloy because if they used the latter that may explain why they didn't have any proofs for 43-44-45. Maybe the 42 type 2 was leftover planchets of the original alloy. Just a thought . Thanks for all of your info coop much appreciated.
