They make me sad, too. But I appreciate these two coins for what they are. inherited from my grandfather who got them from his father. I can see the beauty in them in spite of the damage.

I was gonna say this should be called "The Cringe and Cry Thread."

I'm not sure If I have any holed coins either (that weren't minted that way).

I do have a couple Vatican coins somewhere but no pictures handy.

Let's get on with the holed coins here before I get my drill out.
Sorry I got this thread off track.

Man, they took poor Ms. Liberty's head off in one of those. Seems this was a pretty common thing to do in the 19th century. Thanks everyone for the comments and pics.

Here is one of mine. Unfortunately, there were plenty from which I could choose.

Thanks for sharing. These coins obviously meant something to someone! Enough to want to keep them and wear them.

Darn, today I just got done putting all my floating coins in 2x2's and changing out the rest to clean 2x2's, do have a bunch but can't get good pix through window plastic to prove it!

One of my first when "restarting" was in a batch of inherited coins, a VF 1865 3-cent, must have had history because that side of family was around central MO from Civil war days...think it was a birth-year coin but can't verify.
