to the forum! What year is the coin? It doesn't look like a War Nickel, and that doesn't look like any S that would be on a Nickel. Is the S looking area raised or level with the surface?

Substance image transfer, whether glue, soda, monkey pee and dirt, something caused coins to become stuck together and this is the image/imprint left. It is NOT MINT CAUSED! it is Post mint damage from circulation.

Without an actual test, you cannot be sure it is silver from the color alone. Staining and environmental exposure can mimic the appearance of other metals. I'm still convinced that what you see as an S mintmark is just a bit of damage that resembles an S. There is no way a mintmark would appear in that location. Also again, what year is on the front of the coin? Is there a mint mark on the front?

Nothing but a weird stain. Or you could actually show us photos to convince us.

N0nonsence here my score with the moderators luvmycam 4, moderators 50. The comments are correct, you gotta have the goods to get past these folks the nickel you showed is post die damage. There are coin people on here that know and have seen it all (almost) I have loaded some doozies on the forum and had my feelings hurt, stay cool and keep searching. Oh, by all means don't spend the coin send it in to ANAC'S if your sure. You will have either a unique discovery piece or a cool sovenier worth 5 cents in a coin slab. Don't let these old sea dogs scare you away, their barks are worse than bites. What else have you found out there?

I'm new also, so I don't want to come off as mean, but seriously you posted 3 times and never even mentioned the year. I see the "s" you are talking about in your picture, I would have saved it also. I have huge box of random stuff that as I post them these guys have been great at explaining not just if something is an error or not, but how the coin came to be in the condition. When I started I was afraid someone would tell me to post less pictures, but from what I have seen here the more pictures the better.
