Or... You could save yourself a bunch of money, do what the TPG "experts" would do, and compare the dates to find the numbers on a 1916-D is much closer to the bottom of the Miss Liberty effigy than on your coin. Upper left pic is yours: Also note the top of the 6 is very prominent on the 16-D and missing from yours. The shape of the 9's loop, inside and out, more closely resembles the 1918 than the other dates. If this is not enough info, you could also look at pics of the D positioning and shape of the D on the 1916, 1918, and 1919. Fun playing Sherlock. Fun saving money. Fun learning about coins

Earle42 I take my hat off to you. Stunning computer skills also. I enclose 2 more date pics that should hopefully reveal the coins true identity. The question is, it worth 3 dollars or 200...... ;-) I used a flashlight so may have some odd shadows.

Quote: 1918-D IMO. Yep - everything adds up! The top of that 8 is just too obvious!

Well we know it's not a 1915. And for sure not a 1946. I guess that leaves the 1918 as best guess.

1918 based on the better images. This is from my "diagnostics" folder on Mercury dimes.

Thanking everyone for teaching me and saving me a lot of money and disappointment. Nss-52 fantastic work on the images.
I think this site is where the nicest people on the internet roam.
Btw is it totally normal to want a genuine 1916-D now?
