The weight would help. if it is ground down it should be measurably lighter.

After reading coops article on another thread about a large clipped planchet, it said to look at the inside edge of the clip and you'll see the different grains with a center line. If you look at the edge of this blank from the side(3rd pic) you can see the center line and the different direction of the grains like what you would look for on a clipped planchet. I don't know about it not having a rim. It looks like it may have one but it's either worn or the angle of the pics. With that said, and If it is in fact 3.2 grams, I think that pretty much rules out grinding it down, and that line seen from the edge I think would mean it's the real deal. Just my humble opinion. What you have is a "blank". This is where it is first punched out of the stock plate PRIOR to going through the Upset mill to put the proto-rim and finishing touches on. These are MUCH harder to come by than the Planchets. Have never heard of one being found in roll since this is a copper blank, pre-1983! Good find! When stamped out the edge generally has a partial clean cut along with a shearing affect all around and running in the same direction for same side of the blank face. The article pertaining too clips and the effect of an inside cut verses the outside cut. The effect of the cut and the shearing affect are in opposite directions when compared to each other. Thanks, Doug. Adding: if you were to see this effect on a blank with a clip, the direction change mentioned above or the way I perceive it on error-ref would resemble 180° change as seen in below image. I'm not saying spiked heads are super common, but I've been finding them pretty regularly. Even found a dime spiked head in change from the gas station. I was just trying to make a point. I actually found a decent cracked skull Lincoln on a 2006 that was at least MS 60 like 5 mins after I made that post. I almost went back and edited but I'm lazy, lol.
