Really? I have to be honest lol. Up until about 2 weeks ago, I've never even seen or heard of these. I was totally confused when I seen the stamps

I have a couple of them too that I bought back in the late 70's , I don't believe they are rare or valuable .Maybe in the year 2076 .

Nice notes from a smaller California town! Cool!

I remember getting some 1976 district "K" Dallas deuces a few days ahead of their scheduled 4/13/76 release date. I took those notes to the Frisco Texas post office on 4/12/76 and was able to get them postmarked with that date. I still have a couple of them around here somewhere.

People collect these things in all different ways. The tough set to put together is first day postmarked star notes from all 12 districts....especially the "I" and "J" districts. Notes postmarked in Hawaii, Alaska, The Territories and on military bases and ships sometimes command huge premiums.

I have several of them (and getting more), even a few from the zip code where I grew up.

I can see where these would be fun to collect. I think I have one that came in an auction lot that I won on ebay.

Remembering the 70's makes me a bit nostalgic. The Vietnam war had just ended, Gerald Ford was at the helm and the US was on cruise control. Super Bowl X from the Orange Bowl pitted the Pittsburgh Steelers versus America's team, the Dallas Cowboys and Jimmy Carter had just won the Iowa caucus. The country was proudly celebrating its Bicentennial and what better day to release the new Deuce then on Thomas Jefferson's 233rd Birthday , April 13th 1976. The United States Treasury Department reintroduces the $2 note in the form of a Federal Reserve note. One of my all time favorite vignettes is an engraving of John Trumbull's painting "Declaration of Independence ".

I own just one stamped example...I'll let you guess the postmark.

These are readily available, and if my memory is correct sold through mass marketing in 1976 (I think I recall an ad in TV Guide). Considered a novelty, so if you like them that's fine, just don't pay a whole lot.

Proper First Class postage was to be applied in order to receive the first day cancel, but that was overlooked at times. I bought this example for $2.
